Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has criticised Air Peace after passengers were left stranded for hours at Gatwick Airport following a prolonged flight delay.

Akindele, who was among those affected, took to social media on Friday to express frustration over the situation, revealing that passengers had been waiting since early morning without clear communication, access to their luggage, or the hotel accommodation reportedly promised by the airline.

According to her, the delay—initially attributed to a bird strike—left travellers, including elderly passengers and families, exhausted and stranded at the baggage claim area for nearly 10 hours.

“Passengers have been here since 6:30am with no proper updates. After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting hungry, tired, and without their bags,” she wrote.

In a follow-up post shared alongside a video from the scene, the actress said conditions had not improved hours later, urging the airline to release passengers’ luggage and provide immediate care.

The incident sparked widespread reactions online, with many calling on the airline to improve its customer service and crisis communication during disruptions.

Responding to the complaints, Air Peace apologised for the inconvenience, stating that the delay was caused by factors beyond its control and reiterating that passenger safety remains its top priority. The airline added that efforts were underway to assist affected travellers.

However, as of the time of reporting, there was no confirmation that luggage had been released or that hotel arrangements had been provided.

The situation highlights ongoing concerns about passenger welfare and airline responsiveness during flight disruptions, particularly on long-haul international routes.
