The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and incumbent governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has emerged victorious in the state’s governorship election, reaffirming APGA’s firm grip on Anambra’s political landscape.

Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, defeated 15 other candidates in a highly anticipated contest that saw impressive voter turnout across the 21 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

According to official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Soludo polled a commanding 422,664 votes, leaving his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), far behind with 99,445 votes.

Dominance Across the State

The election, held in 5,720 polling units, reflected widespread support for Soludo, who maintained a comfortable lead in every LGA, sweeping both rural strongholds and urban centers.

APGA’s performance was particularly overwhelming in areas such as Aguata, Njikoka, Orumba North, and Anambra West, where Soludo posted record-breaking numbers. In contrast, the APC managed only scattered wins, unable to close the significant margin.

Below is a summary of key results across selected LGAs:

* Dunukofia LGA: APGA – 14,892 | APC – 3,284

* Awka North LGA: APGA – 15,895 | APC – 3,661

* Njikoka LGA: APGA – 22,213 | APC – 5,687

* Nnewi South LGA: APGA – 17,286 | APC – 9,281

* Onitsha North LGA: APGA – 24,225 | APC – 4,677

* Aguata LGA: APGA – 35,559 | APC – 4,125

* Anambra West LGA: APGA – 71,365 | APC – 16,595

Smaller parties such as the Labour Party (LP) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recorded minimal impact across polling units, with most of their votes numbering in the low hundreds.

Victory Speech and Public Reaction

Speaking shortly after the announcement, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude to Ndi Anambra for what he described as a “resounding reaffirmation of faith” in his leadership and vision for the state.

“This victory is not just for APGA but for every Anambra citizen who believes in progress, stability, and sustainable development,” he said. “Together, we will continue to make Anambra the light of the nation.”

Political observers have described the result as a “landslide reaffirmation” of APGA’s deep-rooted influence in the state, a pattern consistent since the party’s emergence as a dominant force in Anambra politics nearly two decades ago.

Conclusion

With this win, Professor Soludo secures a second term in office, extending APGA’s control of Anambra State and reinforcing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most reform-minded governors.

As INEC officially concludes the election process, attention now turns to the governor’s next moves—especially his plans to deepen infrastructural renewal, expand education, and boost the state’s digital economy agenda.
