The All Progressives Congress (APC) has robustly defended the federal government’s $1 billion investment in the Lagos Deep Sea Port, dismissing opposition claims that the project neglects other regional ports as unfounded and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Lagos State chapter of the APC, the party emphasized that the development of the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the deep sea port is a strategic move aimed at boosting Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure, enhancing economic activities, and creating job opportunities across the country.

The APC highlighted that the project is part of a broader initiative to modernize Nigeria’s ports and improve logistics, which will have a positive ripple effect on other ports, including those in Warri, Calabar, Onne, and Port Harcourt.

The party argued that the development of the Lagos port is not an isolated effort but part of a nationwide strategy to revitalize and expand Nigeria’s port capabilities.

The APC also pointed out that the Lagos Deep Sea Port is expected to handle larger vessels, reduce congestion at existing ports, and attract significant foreign investment, all of which will contribute to the overall growth of Nigeria’s economy.

In response to criticisms from opposition parties, the APC described the allegations as politically motivated and lacking in substance.

The party called for a focus on collaborative efforts to enhance Nigeria’s infrastructure and economic prospects rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.
