A major internal conflict has arisen within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido was reportedly unable to obtain the nomination form to contest for the party’s national chairman slot.

Lamido visited the PDP national secretariat at Wadata Plaza in Abuja Monday morning to purchase the form for the upcoming elective National Convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. Upon arrival, he discovered that the office of the National Organising Secretary, responsible for form sales, was locked and key officials said they were unaware of the form’s availability.

He expressed disbelief that long-standing party procedures were being sidelined. “I came to buy the form to contest the national chairmanship, but I was denied. If this continues, I will have no choice but to approach the court for justice,” Lamido told journalists.

Lamido also alleged that the sale of the nomination forms has been hijacked by a subset of the party, pointing to the chair of the National Convention Organising Committee, Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa State, as holding control over the process.

The controversy has deepened concerns about internal democracy and transparency within the PDP ahead of its national convention. Critics argue that the party’s failure to adhere to its own constitution and procedures undermines its credibility as a major opposition force.

“As the party works toward 2027 elections, we must be disciplined and organised. If we don’t follow our constitution and procedures, how do we win elections?” Lamido said.

The development raises questions about potential legal battles within the party and could create further schisms ahead of the convention.
