In a tragic escalation of violence, unknown bandits ambushed a security convoy in Zamfara State, killing eight personnel and leaving several others injured, security sources confirm.
The attack occurred late Thursday along a major rural route linking Gusau and surrounding local government areas.
Details of the Attack
Preliminary reports indicate that the security team was on a routine patrol when they fell into a pre‑planned ambush.
The assailants, wielding rifles and explosives, reportedly blocked the road and opened fire from both sides before retreating into nearby forested terrain.
One senior source, speaking anonymously, said: “They came in numbers, used IEDs to disable the lead vehicle, and then rained bullets on the rest. It was coordinated and ruthless.”
Casualties were swiftly evacuated to the nearest military medical facility in Gusau, while reinforcements from adjacent commands were deployed in pursuit of the attackers.

In response to the incident, the Zamfara State Government condemned the attack, labeling it a deliberate assault on national security and calling for urgent federal assistance.
The Governor’s office declared a three‑day mourning period across affected localities and vowed increased support for security operations.
