Gas Price Crisis: 5 Cheaper Cooking Alternatives Nigerians Can Rely On

In a welcome move for Nigerian households, Dangote Refinery has reduced its ex‑depot price for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG, or “cooking gas”) by ₦50 per kilogram, bringing it down from ₦810 to ₦760.

A New Benchmark in LPG Pricing

This new rate places Dangote’s LPG among the most affordable in the market. Current competitor ex‑depot rates stand at:

* Matrix & Ardova depots: ₦920/kg

* A.Y.M Shafa & NIPCO: ₦910/kg

* Stockgap Depot: ₦950/kg

In other words, Dangote is now offering LPG at a price 150 to 190 naira lower per kilogram than most rivals.

Why the Price Drop? Supply Disruptions Blamed

The reduction comes as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) attributes recent price surges to industrial action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

According to NNPCL’s Group CEO, Bayo Ojulari, the strike disrupted loading and distribution activities, leading to artificial inflation of rates.

Ojulari has expressed optimism that as the strike subsides, LPG pricing will stabilize.
