Widespread anger and calls for improved security have trailed the killing of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a presenter with Arise News, who was reportedly murdered during a robbery at her Abuja residence.

The incident occurred in the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), triggering public outrage and renewed demands for government action to curb rising insecurity in the capital city.

Community members and civil society groups have expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of violent crimes targeting residents, especially in residential neighborhoods previously considered safe.

In response to the incident, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, condemned the killing and urged security agencies to step up patrols and preventive measures. He emphasized the need for swift justice and enhanced protection for residents.

“The safety and security of Abuja residents must be prioritized to prevent further loss of innocent lives,” Wike said in a statement.

Security operatives have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding Maduagwu’s death. Meanwhile, residents continue to call for more effective policing and community engagement to tackle insecurity.
