Tacha: Nigerians Should Demand Accountability from Governors, Senators, Not Just Tinubu

Influencer and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has called on Nigerians to broaden their focus of accountability beyond President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that governors, senators and local government chairmen must also be held responsible for governance failures.

In a video that has gone viral, Tacha referenced a recent Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocation of ₦2.2 trillion to federal, state, and local governments, pointing out that despite the substantial funds distributed, many public officials have failed to deliver expected results.

She said: “44 billion, I didn’t say million, 44 billion has been disbursed to a local government chairman. Watch how they’ll do absolutely nothing with it, because at the end of the day, they understand that Nigerians will come out and drag Tinubu.”

Tacha lamented that Nigerians often see themselves criticizing the presidency for all the country’s problems, while many other political leaders who receive public funds remain unexamined.

She emphasized that many citizens aren’t even familiar with who their local government chairmen are, yet those same officials receive financial allocations.

Her comments are adding to a growing discourse in Nigeria over decentralised accountability and the responsibilities of subnational governments in addressing core issues like infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public welfare.
