Peter Obi Slams Rivers State Emergency Rule as “Needless Constitutional Breach”

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has warned that Nigeria’s democracy is on a downward spiral, citing recent events as proof of deep constitutional violations.

Obi, who reacted to President Tinubu’s suspension and reinstatement of Governor Fubara during the Rivers emergency rule saga, said the episode exposed the fragility of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

According to him, when executive powers are stretched beyond constitutional limits, the nation risks sliding into authoritarianism. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and demand accountability from leaders at all levels.
