Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned members and supporters of the African Democratic Party (ADC) against internal disputes, warning that such actions could weaken the opposition and harm Nigeria’s democratic future.

Atiku’s warning followed a comment by a user on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) who accused his supporters of attacking former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, while shielding Atiku from criticism. The user suggested that Obi was being unfairly targeted and denied the same respect accorded to Atiku.

Reacting through his official 𝕏 account, Atiku distanced himself from the attacks and made it clear that anyone who insults either him or Peter Obi does not have the interest of the leaders, the ADC coalition, or the Nigerian people at heart.

He stressed that internal hostility among opposition figures only weakens their collective strength and plays into the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, division within the opposition serves no purpose other than sustaining what he described as an unjust status quo.

Atiku urged supporters to focus on unity and shared goals rather than personal attacks, emphasizing that solidarity is essential for meaningful democratic progress in the country.

“Those who insult Obi or Atiku do not mean well for the leaders, the ADC coalition, or Nigeria and Nigerians,” he said. “The only beneficiaries of such internal conflict are the APC urban bandits who want to preserve the current state of affairs. We are stronger together.”
