The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has unveiled a new Pre-Enrolment Portal designed to make registering for the National Identification Number (NIN) faster, smoother, and more convenient for Nigerians.

The initiative aims to tackle the long queues and waiting times that have become a persistent challenge at enrolment centres nationwide.

Announcing the platform on its official 𝕏 handle on Friday, NIMC explained that the portal allows applicants to submit their personal details, upload required documents, and schedule appointments online before visiting enrolment centres for biometric capture.

By moving much of the registration process online, the Commission hopes to improve efficiency, enhance data accuracy, and reduce congestion at physical centres.

Dr Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, highlighted the benefits of the portal for both local and diaspora applicants.

“The new digital platform enables prospective registrants to complete a significant part of their NIN registration online.

This includes capturing and submitting biodata before coming in for biometric capture, which will greatly reduce waiting times,” Adegoke said.

Echoing this sentiment, NIMC Director-General Abisoye Coker-Odusote described the portal as a landmark step in simplifying the registration process for citizens.

“By allowing applicants to complete most of the registration online, we are minimizing the time spent at enrolment centres and making the entire experience more seamless,” she noted.

Among the key features of the Pre-Enrolment Portal are online biodata capture and management, secure document uploads, appointment scheduling, and direct data entry by applicants to ensure accuracy.

The platform also adheres to global standards for data protection, guaranteeing that users’ information remains confidential and secure.

NIMC stressed that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digital transformation, efficient public service delivery, and inclusive national development.

The Commission said the portal demonstrates its commitment to providing citizen-focused digital identity services that are accessible, secure, and user-friendly.

The Commission is encouraging all Nigerians yet to register for a NIN to take advantage of the Pre-Enrolment Portal as a faster, simpler, and more convenient route to completing their registration.

NIMC described the platform as a crucial step in building a reliable and inclusive digital identity system that can support national planning and sustainable development.
