The Federal Government has approved the reopening of 47 Unity Schools that were earlier closed over security concerns, marking a major step toward restoring full academic activities in affected federal colleges across the country.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education, which disclosed that the schools had been shut down to protect students and staff amid security threats in their locations.

According to the ministry, the decision to reopen the colleges followed significant improvements in security arrangements within the campuses and their surrounding communities. These measures, it said, were put in place to guarantee the safety of learners and ensure that academic activities continue without disruption.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the ministry confirmed that students have returned to their schools and normal learning has resumed. While some of the reopened institutions are currently rounding off their December academic programmes, others have already completed their examinations.

The ministry reassured parents, guardians and the general public that the protection, welfare and well-being of students remain a central priority of the Federal Government. It added that security agencies are working closely with school authorities to sustain peace and prevent any threats that could interrupt learning.

Reaffirming the government’s stance, the ministry stated that the administration is committed to safeguarding the rights of Nigerian children to quality education in a safe environment. It stressed that education remains a cornerstone of national development and human capital growth, making it imperative to keep schools open and academic calendars on track.

The ministry also noted that the smooth return of students and the successful conduct of examinations in several unity colleges highlight the government’s determination to ensure uninterrupted learning, even in the face of ongoing security challenges.
