A quiet neighborhood in Gidan-Bijimi, Kawu Ward, Bwari Area Council, was thrown into fear and confusion on Wednesday night following the abduction of seven teenagers.
Among the victims are a 16-year-old boy and six young women aged between 17 and 23.
Armed Attack Shakes Community
According to local resident Suleiman Shuaibu, the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed two homes around 9:47 pm, opening fire and forcing residents to flee. Community vigilantes tried to confront the bandits but were quickly overpowered by their superior firepower.
Shuaibu confirmed the distressing news, noting that many residents left their homes in panic after the violent incident. “It was around 9:53 pm when I received a call from Gidan-Bijimi. Bandits had invaded the village and abducted six young girls. Sadly, my cousin sister is among those taken,” he said.
No Contact from Kidnappers Yet
Efforts to reach SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, for comment were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls or messages at the time of reporting.
Heightened Security Measures Across the Capital
The abduction comes shortly after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered stricter security measures across Abuja. In response, a joint operation involving the police, DSS, military, and other security agencies has been deployed to key entry points and borders in the territory.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, instructed all security personnel to coordinate fully and take decisive action to curb criminal activities in the area. He emphasized that the minister has provided sufficient logistics to support the operation and ensure the safety of residents.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the kidnappers or the motive behind the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
