President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key education institutions, naming new governing board chairmen for National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), while also appointing a polytechnic rector and renewing the tenure of the National Library’s director-general.

The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued Wednesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the statement, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, with Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi continuing in his role as Registrar.

For NBTE, the President named Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman, while retaining Prof. Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.

In the polytechnic sector, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam for a single five-year term, succeeding Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.

Until his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and previously lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

The President also approved the renewal of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.

Anunobi, first appointed in 2021, has overseen key reforms aimed at modernising the institution, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.

The presidency noted that Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and past NBTE board chairman, brings extensive administrative experience, while Salako, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, is expected to strengthen technical education governance.

Officials said the reappointment of Anunobi would ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and support the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
