American rapper Nicki Minaj has revealed that her decision to address the persecution of Christians in Nigeria stems from personal connections to the country and concerns over ongoing attacks on worshippers.

Minaj made the remarks during a surprise appearance at AmericaFest on Sunday, responding to a question from Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, about what motivated her to speak on the issue.

The rapper explained that her bond with Nigeria runs deep, citing close ties to a Nigerian pastor and friendships with Nigerians as factors that influenced her advocacy.

“Nigeria is a country I’ve always held close to my heart. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian, and I have many Nigerian friends,” Minaj said. “So hearing about people being kidnapped while attending church, or being brutalized and killed just because of their faith, that should spark outrage in all of us.”

She added, “We’re not backing down anymore. We will not be silenced by bullies. We must speak up for Christians everywhere in the world.”

Minaj also highlighted the importance of religious freedom, pointing out that many people often take their right to worship for granted.

“Every time we pray in fellowship, we should remember those who cannot openly worship God where they are. We need to pray for them and recognize the struggles they face just to practice their faith safely,” she said.

Her comments come amid rising reports of attacks on Christians in Nigeria, with kidnappings and violent assaults on worshippers increasingly making global headlines.
