UNILAG Post-UTME 2025: Key Dates, Requirements, And How To Secure Your Spot

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has officially opened the gate for its 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening exercise, signaling the start of what promises to be another intense race for admission into one of Nigeria’s most prestigious institutions.

For thousands of hopefuls, this announcement is more than just a date—it’s the beginning of a journey that could shape their academic and career future.

Registration Timeline

UNILAG revealed that the online registration portal will be open from Monday, September 9, 2025, and will run until Friday, September 26, 2025. Interested candidates are strongly advised not to wait until the last minute, as server congestion and unforeseen technical glitches often plague late registrations.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility remains strict. Only candidates who selected UNILAG as their first choice in the 2025 UTME and scored at least 200 points are eligible.

Additionally, applicants must have a minimum of five O’level credits**, including Mathematics and English, obtained in not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry candidates are also expected to participate in the exercise.

What You Need To Know About The Screening

Unlike previous years of physical exams, UNILAG continues its online screening assessment, reducing logistical hurdles for both the school and applicants.

Candidates will be required to upload relevant documents, after which the university’s automated system will handle the first round of assessments.

The screening is not a walkover. Performance in this stage, combined with UTME scores, will heavily influence admission chances.

Step-by-Step Registration Guide

1. Visit the official UNILAG portal: [www.unilag.edu.ng]
2. Click on the Post-UTME registration link.
3. Generate a payment invoice of ₦2,000 and make payment online or at designated banks.
4. Complete the online form with accurate bio-data.
5. Upload required documents (UTME result slip, O’level results, birth certificate, etc.).
6. Submit and print your application slip.

What Lies Ahead

For many Nigerian students, UNILAG is not just a university—it’s a brand. It carries weight in employment circles, offers rich networking opportunities, and has consistently ranked among the best higher institutions in West Africa. This makes competition fierce and the screening process a high-stakes affair.

Education analysts argue that the digital screening approach is both a blessing and a curse: while it curbs malpractice, it also raises questions about fairness, given Nigeria’s persistent internet connectivity and electricity challenges.

The Coming Days

UNILAG has once again thrown down the gauntlet, and the race is officially on. For the Class of 2029 hopefuls, the next few weeks will demand not just preparation but precision, patience, and strategy.

The university has urged applicants to ignore “shortcuts” and fraudulent agents claiming to offer admission slots, stressing that admission will strictly follow merit and official guidelines.
