President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an urgent review of the 2026 Hajj fares, instructing the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to submit revised, lower rates within two days.
Vice President Kashim Shettima conveyed the directive during a meeting with NAHCON’s management at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The administration says the move is intended to ease the financial burden on intending pilgrims.
Deputy Chief of Staff Senator Ibrahim Hadeija said the original fares were calculated on a pessimistic exchange rate of ₦1,550 to the dollar, and with the naira’s recent appreciation, the costs should be revised downward.
He projected that the new fares could fall to between ₦7.6 million and ₦7.7 million.

NAHCON Secretary Mustapha Mohammad welcomed the directive, promising to work “tirelessly” in the next 48 hours to reduce the rates to the “barest minimum” and ensure affordability.
The Chairman of the Kebbi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Faruk Aliyu Yaro, praised the intervention, calling it a relief for intending pilgrims.
Under the previously announced 2026 fare structure, rates stood at:
* Maiduguri‑Yola Zone: ₦8,318,336.67
* Northern States: ₦8,244,813.67
* Southern States: ₦8,561,013.67
The presidency indicated that the improved exchange rate should now translate into more favorable Hajj fares for pilgrims.
