President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Eagles on their commanding 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa Playoff match, describing the performance as a powerful demonstration of the “Nigerian spirit that rises, adapts, and triumphs.”
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the players for their courage, balance, and precision on the pitch, saying their teamwork and determination reflected the essence of the nation’s enduring resilience.
“The Super Eagles showed once again that football remains one of our strongest unifying forces — a sport that binds Nigerians across tribes, faiths, and regions in shared pride,” Tinubu said.
The President noted that the emphatic win not only boosts Nigeria’s morale but also re-energizes the collective national ambition to secure qualification for the next FIFA World Cup.
He lauded the players, coaching crew, and technical staff for their professionalism and commitment to the nation’s cause, emphasizing that their hard work continues to showcase Nigeria’s deep reservoir of football talent.
Tinubu commended the team’s blend of youthful energy and experience, saying it reflects the “new era of purpose and passion” driving Nigerian football. He urged the Super Eagles to remain focused and disciplined as they prepare for the remaining qualifiers, reminding them that every match offers a chance to demonstrate the strength of character for which Nigeria is known.
“This victory is a symbol of what it means to be Nigerian — resilient, determined, and united in pursuit of excellence,” the President stated. “Keep your focus, maintain your discipline, and don’t stop until qualification is secured. The entire nation stands solidly behind you.”
The President also extended appreciation to millions of Nigerian fans at home and in the diaspora whose unwavering support, he said, continues to inspire the national team to greater heights.
He described their loyalty as “a vital force that fuels the players’ determination, especially in moments that test the nation’s collective will.”
Tinubu concluded by expressing confidence that the Super Eagles’ latest performance signals a renewed sense of belief and momentum as the team seeks to reclaim its place among Africa’s footballing elite.
