Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to discuss the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Sowore confirmed the meeting via his official social media account, where he shared photos and stated that the discussion focused on the plight of Kanu.

The IPOB leader has been in detention since 2021, facing charges related to treasonable felony and terrorism.

Although details of the meeting were not made public, Sowore indicated that the conversation with Jonathan was part of broader engagements with national figures aimed at securing Kanu’s release.

The meeting comes amid renewed calls from civil society groups and some political actors for the federal government to either release Kanu or accelerate his trial process.

Sowore has consistently advocated for Kanu’s freedom, recently threatening to lead a protest to the Presidential Villa if the government fails to act.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Jonathan nor the Presidency has officially commented on the meeting.
