The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed General Christopher Musa (rtd) as the country’s new Minister of Defence.
The approval came on Wednesday, following an extensive five-hour screening session during which lawmakers rigorously questioned Musa on his plans and approach to national security.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier nominated Musa to replace Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who stepped down from the role due to health reasons.
During his confirmation hearing, Musa outlined a strong commitment to tackling the nation’s security challenges. He pledged a zero-tolerance policy on banditry and terrorism and assured Senators that he would employ decisive strategies to neutralize threats to public safety.
The former Chief of Defence Staff emphasized that under his leadership, the military would take firm and proactive action against criminal groups destabilizing communities across Nigeria.
He also promised to investigate reports of military withdrawals preceding the attack on the Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

In addition, Musa said he would establish a committee to probe the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba and condemned the abduction and killing of a brigade commander by terrorists in Borno State, vowing that a thorough investigation would follow.
General Musa’s confirmation signals a renewed focus on strengthening Nigeria’s defence framework and responding decisively to ongoing security threats across the nation.
