The race to 2027 has officially kicked off within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the opposition party takes decisive steps to reposition itself on the national stage.
On Monday, the PDP leadership in Abuja announced the inauguration of 11 subcommittees and formally released the schedule for its much-anticipated National Convention, slated to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15–16, 2025.
The development signals the beginning of a fresh chapter for the party as it attempts to consolidate unity, rebuild structures, and present itself as a credible alternative ahead of the next general elections.
Convention Details
During a press briefing, the party revealed that the 11 subcommittees will handle critical aspects of the convention, including logistics, security, transport, accreditation, finance, media, and publicity, among others.
The committees are expected to immediately commence work to ensure a smooth, credible, and transparent exercise.
PDP’s Position
National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who addressed journalists, described the convention as a strategic platform for the PDP to “rebuild and rebrand” itself ahead of 2027.

He stressed that the zoning arrangements for national offices have already been ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC), while micro-zoning consultations and the sale of nomination forms are underway.
What to Expect
According to Ologunagba, the convention will not only produce new party leaders but also serve as a rallying point for members to re-align and prepare for the task of reclaiming power in 2027.
He added that the subcommittees would play a pivotal role in ensuring the Ibadan convention is peaceful, transparent, and reflective of the party’s internal democratic values.
