Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has once again challenged the Super Eagles to push harder as Nigeria edges closer to a return to the FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria missed out on the 2022 edition in Qatar, a setback the current squad is determined not to experience again.
Their ambition received a major boost on Thursday after a dominant 4–1 victory over Gabon in the playoff semi-final — a result that sent the team into Sunday’s decisive clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat.
Speaking to ESPN after the win, Osimhen expressed full confidence in the team’s ability to seal qualification.
“We can get it done,” he said. “This squad has what it takes to make the World Cup. Every one of us wants to be there, and we are ready.”
While the atmosphere in camp remains positive, the Super Eagles will be without a key figure in their must-win fixture. Wilfred Ndidi is suspended after picking up yellow cards in previous matches, leaving a significant gap in midfield.
Defender Chidozie Awaziem, addressing journalists in Rabat, admitted that Ndidi’s absence will be felt. “We’re definitely going to miss him,” Awaziem said.
However, he insisted the team still has enough quality to compete: “We have other players capable of stepping into that role. The coach trusts everyone, and we believe whoever replaces Wilfred will give their all to help us secure victory.”

Sunday’s showdown in Morocco will determine whether Nigeria progresses to the inter-confederation playoffs scheduled for March 2026 — the final hurdle on the road to the mundial.
