The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has revealed that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course will officially begin nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, across all 37 NYSC orientation camps in Nigeria.

The announcement was made public on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, via the NYSC’s official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account.

According to the Scheme, registration for all prospective corps members will open on the first day of the orientation and continue for three days, concluding at midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026.

The NYSC confirmed that the Swearing-in Ceremony is set for Friday, January 23, 2026, while the Closing Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

In a statement, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, urged all prospective corps members to travel safely to their states of deployment. He particularly emphasized avoiding night journeys, highlighting personal safety as a priority during the mobilization process.

The Scheme also reminded corps members to follow the orientation camp timetable strictly to ensure a smooth and successful programme.

Established in 1973, the NYSC was created to promote national unity and integration in the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War.

The three-week orientation camp serves as the foundational phase of the national service year, exposing corps members to a mix of paramilitary drills, physical training, lectures on national issues, and cultural activities.

Additionally, participants engage in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (SAED), which equips them with practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

The NYSC emphasizes that the orientation programme is designed to foster discipline, teamwork, and national cohesion, while promoting interaction among young Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
