The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the lingering political crisis in Rivers State is finally headed for resolution, following a fresh intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, Wike described the President’s involvement as decisive, stressing that Tinubu’s leadership has helped calm tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

“I believe that, by the grace of God, this will be the last time the President will be bothered with this issue, and the last time the people of Rivers State will have to hear about this kind of discord,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor underscored President Tinubu’s role as a national unifier, insisting that his guidance must be respected by all parties involved.

“The President is the father of the nation. When a father speaks, his children must listen and do what is necessary to ensure peace and progress,” he added.

Wike expressed optimism that both the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara would act in line with the understanding reached during the mediation.

“The House of Assembly will do what they are supposed to do, and I am confident that the governor will also carry out the actions required of him to ensure that this peace is sustained,” he said.

According to Wike, the overriding priority is stability and development in Rivers State, noting that continued political tension would only hinder progress.

“The most important thing is for Rivers State to move forward. We are grateful to Mr President for his tireless efforts in ensuring that we reach this understanding,” he stated.

The political standoff in Rivers State recently intensified after lawmakers perceived to be loyal to Wike initiated impeachment moves against Governor Fubara. In a bid to prevent further escalation, President Tinubu on Monday summoned both Wike and Fubara to the Presidential Villa, where he brokered talks aimed at restoring peace in the state.
