CNG: FG Confirms No Subsidy As Nigerians Face Fresh Price Hike

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ₦905 per litre at its retail outlets in Abuja.

The new pricing reflects a ₦15 increase from the previous ₦890 per litre rate.

The adjustment comes amid recent disruptions in the national fuel supply chain, which industry sources attribute to industrial action and logistical delays.

Confirming the development on Sunday, the President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, said the increase is linked to the temporary strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), which disrupted loading and distribution activities at some depots.

Maigandi noted that while NNPCL retail stations have implemented the new rate, some independent marketers are still selling petrol within the range of ₦885 to ₦895 per litre, depending on location and supply availability.

The recent supply bottlenecks followed a two-day industrial action declared by PENGASSAN in response to the dismissal of some workers at the Dangote Refinery. The strike has since been suspended after an agreement was reached to redeploy the affected employees rather than terminate their appointments.

In a related development, PENGASSAN announced the dissolution of its executive committees in two subsidiaries of NNPCL — Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company Ltd (NGIC) and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML). The union accused both branches of failing to comply with the nationwide industrial action.

Fuel distribution operations have since resumed, but market observers caution that price fluctuations may persist in the short term as supply normalizes.
