Kaduna Moves Off UK Red List After Years of Travel Restrictions

The United Kingdom has officially lifted its travel ban on Kaduna State, removing the state from its “Red” travel advisory list and upgrading it to “Amber.”

The decision was announced on Wednesday during the signing of the Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF) between the Kaduna State Government and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The UK had previously placed Kaduna on the Red list in 2022 over security concerns. The latest update follows what the UK described as “significant improvements” in the state’s security situation.

Fresh Agreements

Governor Uba Sani, who witnessed the signing of the new framework, welcomed the move and assured that his administration remains committed to sustaining peace and strengthening security across the state.

Under the KaMAF agreement, the UK and Kaduna State will collaborate in critical areas including education, healthcare, agriculture, good governance, and transparency.

The new classification means that while travelers are still expected to exercise caution in Kaduna, the state is no longer flagged as a high-risk zone under the UK travel advisory system.

The upgrade is also expected to boost business opportunities, international partnerships, and the overall perception of Kaduna as a safer destination for visitors and investors.
