Veteran Nigerian musician Abdulrasheed Bello, professionally known as JJC Skillz, has reignited discussions about old rivalries in the Nigerian music industry, accusing former associates of betraying him during their early days in the United Kingdom.
In a recent interview on *Echo Room*, JJC Skillz opened up about what he described as years of deception, conspiracy, and broken trust while helping now-prominent stars establish themselves.
According to the artist, he financially supported several rising talents, including Don Jazzy, D’banj, Ayo, and DJ Abass, during their initial struggles. “Taz brought a guy called Don Jazzy to me, and Ayo came through Abass. I met them because they were running a TV station,” JJC Skillz recounted.
He said the arrangement soured when he sought help to reconnect with Nigeria’s entertainment scene. While he claimed his colleagues initially agreed to assist him with introductions to influential industry figures, JJC Skillz alleges their intentions were not entirely transparent.
He explained, “One day I came to them and said, ‘You guys are obviously well connected to Nigeria, and me, I am JJC. I just need somebody to introduce me to the right people.’ They later linked me with Bankulli, but it felt like something was being hidden.”
The situation escalated when JJC Skillz learned through rapper Ruggedman that Don Jazzy and D’banj had allegedly accused him of cheating them financially and planned to leave his group. “I was stunned because nobody knew them back then. I was the one taking them to shows, feeding and accommodating them,” he said. “So how could I be cheating when they hadn’t made any money?”
