The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded more than three-quarters of the polling unit results from Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

A review of the IReV platform at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday showed that 4,339 out of the 5,720 expected polling unit results—representing 75.86 percent—had already been uploaded.

The swift pace of result transmission came less than four hours after voting officially ended across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Polling commenced in most locations around 8:30 a.m., with the process generally peaceful and orderly. However, the exercise was marred by low voter turnout and widespread allegations of vote-buying, which were reported from several communities across the state.

Observers and political actors expressed concern over what they described as the “monetisation” of the election, urging INEC and security agencies to address the issue in subsequent polls.

Despite the challenges, the electoral process continued smoothly across most polling units, and collation of results began soon after voting closed.

Out of the 16 political parties that fielded candidates, four have so far emerged as the leading contenders in the race:

* Prof. Charles Soludo – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA, incumbent)

* Nicholas Ukachukwu – All Progressives Congress (APC)

* George Moghalu – Labour Party (LP)

* John Chuma-Nwosu – African Democratic Congress (ADC)

As of press time, official results from local government areas were still being collated, while citizens closely monitor INEC’s portal for updates.
