The Interim Management Committee (IMC) has given its assurance that the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season will wrap up smoothly, as the final rounds of the abridged campaign approach. With the regular season now in its final stages, the IMC has promised a well-organized finish, culminating in the much-anticipated Super Six playoffs.

Season Nears Climax with Fixture Adjustments

Following recent adjustments to the Group B fixtures, the NPFL season is expected to end next month. The top three clubs from both Group A and Group B will qualify for the Super Six playoffs, which are scheduled to take place in Lagos. These playoffs will determine the eventual league champion.

The IMC, led by its Head of Operations, Davidson Owumi, has reiterated its intention to ensure that the competition ends on a positive note. Owumi expressed satisfaction with the overall progress of the league so far, highlighting the commitment of clubs, match officials, and supporters across the country.

League Management Commends Clubs and Match Officials

“We are happy so far with the performance of the clubs, the conduct of the majority of our match officials, and the fans in most venues,” Owumi stated. While acknowledging that there have been challenges, he emphasized the IMC’s continued efforts to resolve lingering issues.

“It’s never perfect, and we are working to plug all gaps, especially at this last stage when desperation has set in,” he added, referring to the competitive tension among clubs vying for playoff spots.

Crucial Fixtures Ahead as Playoff Race Intensifies

As the regular season enters its final rounds, attention now shifts to decisive matchdays. Group A clubs are scheduled to play Matchday 18 fixtures this weekend, while Group B fixtures will conclude in the following week. These matches will determine which teams advance to the Super Six, where the top contenders will battle for league supremacy.

The IMC’s firm stance on maintaining discipline and fair play in the league’s closing phase has been welcomed by stakeholders, especially as the competition intensifies. With several clubs still in contention for the playoff spots, the last set of matches is expected to deliver drama and excitement for fans across the country.

A New Era of League Administration

The current NPFL campaign has been managed under the interim leadership of the IMC, which was appointed to stabilize and reform league operations. Under its watch, the abridged format was introduced to accommodate scheduling constraints and improve logistics. The successful execution of the Super Six playoffs is expected to be a significant milestone for the committee, marking a step toward long-term structural reform in Nigerian club football.

As the league inches closer to its conclusion, all eyes will be on Lagos for the final showdown. With the IMC’s renewed commitment to a smooth and credible finish, fans and clubs alike are hopeful for an exciting and controversy-free climax to the 2022/23 NPFL season.
