Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has issued a strong warning to residents against the spread of fake news, highlighting its damaging impact on society. The governor’s message was conveyed in a statement released on Friday through his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Rafiu Ajakaye.

“I join our compatriots in Kwara and across the country to welcome another year,” Gov. AbdulRazaq said. “It is indeed a time to congratulate one another for surviving 2020 which, no thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, shook human civilisation to its foundation.”

Despite ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic and economic difficulties, the governor expressed optimism about the future. “While COVID-19 and the economic crisis are still with us, there are glimmers of hope that the worst is behind us. It is therefore a time to rebuild our world,” he added.

The governor emphasized that his administration would intensify efforts to reposition Kwara State for sustainable and inclusive growth. He pledged continued focus on supporting the vulnerable and poor, a hallmark of his government’s policy.

“We will continue to pay special attention to the vulnerable and the poor, which has stood us out, while our investments in basic amenities will continue within available resources,” Gov. AbdulRazaq stated. He also promised increased investment in empowering the youth and respecting the rights of every individual.

Addressing concerns over social harmony, the governor urged citizens to keep differences civil and avoid actions that could disrupt peace. “Fake news brought heavy damage on the country in 2020. Kwara government calls on everyone to avoid a repeat in the interest of all,” he warned.

Concluding his address, the governor extended warm wishes to all residents for a prosperous new year.
