The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an interim injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The court’s decision follows a motion filed by Honourable Nafiu Bala Gombe, who contested the leadership change within the party.
Justice Emeka Nwite, delivering the ruling on September 4, 2025, directed INEC to halt any recognition of Mark and Aregbesola as ADC leaders until the substantive matter is heard.
This legal development comes shortly after INEC officially recognised Mark and Aregbesola as the new leaders of the ADC, following the resignation of the party’s long-serving National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu.
The recognition was part of a broader coalition effort to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In response to the court’s ruling, the faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe expressed support for the decision, viewing it as a validation of their stance on the party’s leadership legitimacy.
They have called on INEC and the public to uphold the court’s order and maintain the status quo until the matter is fully adjudicated.
