The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured the public that no lives were lost following a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The incident occurred at the terminal currently undergoing reconstruction by the Federal Government, triggering panic among passengers and airport workers. Eyewitnesses said individuals within the vicinity rushed to safety immediately the fire broke out, as thick smoke engulfed parts of the terminal.
Emergency responders, including airport firefighters, were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) platform, FAAN confirmed that its emergency response teams were fully activated.
“FAAN wishes to inform the public of a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to contain the situation. No loss of life has been recorded,” the agency stated.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to completely extinguish the fire were still ongoing, while the exact cause of the incident remains unknown. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation to determine the source of the outbreak and assess the extent of damage.
