The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State reportedly collapsed and died during a public event on Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred in the early hours of the event, which was attended by several dignitaries and members of the public.
The commandant, whose name was not officially released at the time of reporting, slumped unexpectedly and was immediately attended to by on-site personnel.
Despite swift efforts to resuscitate him, he was confirmed dead shortly after.
The cause of death has not been disclosed, and authorities have yet to issue an official statement. However, sources within the NSCDC confirmed the incident and noted that the commandant had shown no prior signs of illness.
The event was abruptly halted following the incident, and the venue was cordoned off by security officials. Attendees were asked to vacate the premises as medical personnel and law enforcement secured the area.

Efforts are currently underway to notify the family, and arrangements for an autopsy or further medical evaluation are expected.
