A teenager known as DMX has reportedly died after being shot by a yet-to-be-identified police officer in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State, triggering outrage and calls for an immediate investigation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and was first reported by Punch, which gathered that a disagreement between the officer and the teenager escalated before the fatal gunshot was fired.
According to a source familiar with the confrontation, the officer allegedly shot DMX in the leg during the heated exchange.
“DMX and the policeman had an issue, and things got out of hand. The officer fired at his leg. His friends rushed him to the hospital, but he had already lost so much blood before they got there,” the source explained.
Despite being driven to the hospital by friends, the teenager reportedly succumbed to excessive blood loss before doctors could stabilise him.
The case gained widespread attention after an X user, @Sturbyrich65562, refuted circulating claims that the victim had attacked the officer.
In his post, he acknowledged that DMX belonged to the Eiye confraternity but insisted that he posed no threat during the encounter.
“Naija police killed one of my area guys. Yes, he was Eiye, but he didn’t fight any officer. From everything we heard, the policeman was just trigger-happy,” the user wrote, tagging the anti-cultism platform Naija Confra to demand accountability.
Questions Over Medical Response
In its own statement on Tuesday, Naija Confra supported claims that there were troubling delays in the teenager’s treatment.
The platform stated that DMX arrived at the hospital alive and that payment for blood transfusion had been made, but alleged that negligence and slow medical attention worsened his condition.
“His friends said he was still breathing when they arrived at the hospital, and they quickly paid for blood. But they insist unnecessary delays contributed to his death,” the group noted.

Naija Confra also revealed another disturbing dimension — that the deceased’s father is reportedly a senior police officer, while the officer who fired the shot has yet to be identified.
As calls for justice intensify, neither the police command nor the hospital involved has issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the alleged medical lapse.
