In response to a series of fatal road accidents involving its trucks, Dangote Group has initiated a comprehensive retraining program for its drivers. The move aims to enhance road safety and operational efficiency across Nigeria.
The training sessions, conducted in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), are part of Dangote Group’s commitment to its “Absolute Safer Road Policy.”
The program includes safety protocols, preventive measures, and general road safety awareness.
Despite the company’s efforts, the initiative has received mixed reactions from the public. Some Nigerians have praised the retraining program, while others remain skeptical about its effectiveness.
Recent Accidents
The most recent incident was from days ago, after one of the company’s trucks rammed into a car on a highway in Bayelsa State, nearly claiming the lives of passengers, including an undergraduate student.

Prior to that, one of the company’s fleet was accused of crushing a family of four alongside others in Enugu, which was denied by the company in a statement, warning other truck companies of using ‘Dangote’ tags on their vehicles.
The most viral of these cases was the death of Ruth Otabor, who lost her leg to an accident involving Dangote’s truck in Auchi, before giving up the ghost days after arrangements were made to fly her to India for better treatment.
