The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the inspection and distribution of sensitive election materials ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll in Anambra State.
The inspection exercise took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Awka, where INEC officials verified the materials before dispatching them to the various local government areas across the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after the inspection, the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Queen Agu, assured that the Commission is fully prepared to conduct a credible and transparent election.
“We have received all sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria, and they are being sent immediately to the local government areas. This early deployment is to ensure smooth logistics and timely commencement of voting on Saturday,” Agu said.
She reiterated INEC’s commitment to meeting its operational timelines, emphasizing that the Commission has put all necessary measures in place for a seamless exercise.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle, confirmed that comprehensive security and logistics plans have been finalized to ensure peace and order throughout the election period.
According to Shogunle, security operatives will be stationed across all polling units, with additional deployments on waterways and air patrols for broader coverage.
“Voting will take place in every polling unit across Anambra State except two, which have no registered voters. Every other location is fully covered, and by early Saturday morning, all electoral materials will have reached the respective polling stations,” he said.

The Commissioner further assured residents that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are working closely with INEC to guarantee the safety of voters, officials, and election materials throughout the exercise.
With both INEC and security agencies confirming their readiness, all eyes are now on Anambra as the state heads to the polls to elect its next governor.
