As the Super Eagles brace for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash against hosts Morocco, the Federal Government has thrown its weight firmly behind the national team, calling on the players to approach the game with confidence, unity, and unwavering national pride.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, delivered the message of support on Wednesday as the Nigerian side prepared for the high-stakes encounter in Rabat. He commended the Eagles for their impressive run in the tournament, praising their discipline, courage, and collective belief on the pitch.
According to Idris, the entire nation is standing solidly behind the team as they take on one of the tournament’s toughest opponents.
“You have reached this stage before and understand what it takes to succeed at this level,” the minister said, urging the players to draw strength from their experience and composure.
He also reminded the squad of Nigeria’s proud AFCON history, noting that past triumphs were built on teamwork, resilience, and a strong fighting spirit—qualities he believes the current team has clearly displayed throughout the competition.
“Those victories were never by chance. They were achieved through unity, confidence, and determination, and that same spirit has been evident in your performances at this tournament,” he added.
Idris emphasized that the players are carrying far more than jerseys onto the pitch, stressing that millions of Nigerians will be watching and believing in them.
“As you walk onto the field, remember that you are not alone. You carry the hopes and dreams of an entire nation,” he said.
He encouraged the Super Eagles to remain focused, trust one another, and play with the mindset of champions from start to finish.
Expressing confidence in the team’s ability to go all the way, the minister said the Eagles have already proven they deserve their place in the semi-finals and possess the quality to reach the final.
“Tonight, go out there and write another proud chapter in Nigeria’s football history. Play with passion, play with pride, and play for Nigeria,” he charged.
