Adekunle Gold Reveals Father’s Death Inspired His Upcoming Fuji Album

Singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that the death of his father influenced his songwriting on his upcoming album Fuji.

During a recent interview, he said that grief from the loss remains one of the central themes in the project, which he describes as deeply personal.

Gold’s forthcoming sixth studio album Fuji, set to be released October 3, 2025, draws on multiple aspects of his life—including the grief of losing his father, gaining fatherhood, lost friendships, and personal growth.

He said the track “Simile,” originally written for Beyoncé’s 2019 The Lion King: The Gift, did not make that album but later found its place in Fuji. The song, like others on the album, carries layers of meaning tied to his emotional journey over recent years.

Gold described Fuji as a work that marks a return to his musical roots, rooted in storytelling and indigenous Yoruba influences. He said the album has taken five years to complete, calling it his “greatest work yet.”
