Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly refuted circulating claims that he has pulled out of the 2027 presidential contest to back Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer, Peter Obi.
The reports, which gained traction online, suggested that Atiku had agreed to step aside for Obi and support a single-term presidency in the interest of regional balance.
The narrative also implied that the former vice president was already realigning his political ambitions ahead of the next general election.
Reacting to the claims, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, dismissed the story as entirely untrue. In a post shared on Saturday, December 27, via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Ibe reposted a screenshot of the report and labelled it bluntly: “Fake news: Not on the menu!”
The denial has sparked renewed debate across social media, with supporters of both Atiku and Obi weighing possible political alliances and permutations ahead of 2027. While some commentators continue to speculate about opposition unity, Atiku’s camp has made it clear that no such arrangement exists.
