Chelsea Must Fix Defensive Errors, Discipline Issues After Arsenal Defeat — Rosenior

Head coach Liam Rosenior has urged Chelsea FC to address recurring defensive lapses and disciplinary issues following their 2-1 loss to Arsenal FC in the Premier League.

Despite showing attacking intent and creating several clear chances at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea were undone by two set-piece goals, with Arsenal defenders William Saliba and Jurrien Timber finding the net from corner kicks.

Rosenior expressed frustration over his side’s inability to defend dead-ball situations, noting that such errors continue to cost the team valuable points.

“We conceded two goals from set-plays, which has ultimately cost us the game. It’s really disappointing,” he said in a post-match interview.

The defeat was further compounded by a red card shown to winger Pedro Neto, who was sent off after receiving two quick yellow cards. Rosenior described the dismissal as a major setback, especially as Neto had been a key attacking threat before his exit.

The coach also warned that the suspension would weaken the squad ahead of their next fixture against Aston Villa F.C..

“It’s not just Pedro; as a group, we have to take accountability for our discipline and decision-making,” Rosenior added, stressing that repeated red cards are becoming a deeper concern within the team.

Chelsea’s disciplinary record has been a growing issue this season, with the club accumulating seven red cards in the Premier League so far, and even more across all competitions.

While Arsenal’s efficiency from set-pieces — with 16 goals from dead-ball situations this season — highlights their strength, Rosenior insisted Chelsea must focus on correcting their own shortcomings rather than blaming opponents.

“It’s a focus and concentration issue that we need to fix. If we solve these problems, we can become a very strong team and achieve our goals,” he said.

The loss adds pressure on Chelsea to quickly regroup, as defensive organisation and discipline continue to threaten their campaign ambitions.

FG Begins Direct Remittance of Oil Revenues to FAAC Under Executive Order 9

The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of Executive Order 9 of 2026, mandating the direct remittance of oil revenues into the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in a move aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s petroleum revenue management.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this on Monday after the inaugural meeting of the implementation committee set up following a directive by President Bola Tinubu.

According to Edun, the committee reaffirmed the President’s position that all revenues from petroleum operations must be handled in strict compliance with constitutional provisions, ensuring that funds due to the three tiers of government are fully safeguarded.

As part of the new measures, NNPC Limited has been directed to immediately discontinue the deduction of 30 per cent management fees and 30 per cent frontier exploration funds from profit oil and gas under Production Sharing Contracts.

The government also announced the immediate suspension of gas flare penalty remittances into the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), in line with provisions of the executive order.

On the implementation framework, Edun explained that while the order provides for direct payments by contractors into the federation account, the transition will be carefully managed to respect existing contractual obligations and sustain investor confidence.

He noted that a defined transition period has been approved, during which contractors will continue with the current remittance process pending the issuance of detailed operational guidelines.

“To ensure a seamless transition, the committee will provide clear and standardised directives to guide the eventual full implementation of direct payments into the Federation Account,” the minister said.

Edun further revealed that a technical subcommittee has been constituted to develop transition guidelines within three weeks and to initiate a review of the Petroleum Industry Act to address structural and fiscal gaps affecting federation revenues.

The subcommittee will be led by the Special Adviser to the President on Energy and will include key officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Revenue Service, the Forum of Commissioners of Finance, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Budget Office of the Federation.

The minister added that the committee will continue to provide updates as implementation progresses, while commending stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring that Nigeria’s oil wealth delivers tangible benefits to citizens nationwide.

Police Council Confirms Disu as Substantive Inspector-General of Police

Nigeria’s National Police Council has unanimously endorsed the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

The confirmation followed a council meeting held on Monday at the State House in Abuja, presided over by President Bola Tinubu. The session, which lasted about 40 minutes, began shortly after the President’s arrival at the Council Chamber around 2:15 pm.

Speaking after the meeting, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development, stating, “They have unanimously endorsed Disu as IGP.”

The meeting was convened in line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, which mandates the Police Council to review and approve the appointment of the Inspector-General before it is forwarded to the Senate for final confirmation.

Disu, 59, had been serving in an acting capacity following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun. His confirmation signals a formal transition in leadership at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Police Council, chaired by the President, includes all 36 state governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police. Monday’s meeting also had in attendance key government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The Presidency had earlier indicated that the council would be convened following Egbetokun’s exit, in compliance with statutory requirements.

With the endorsement secured, Disu’s appointment is expected to be transmitted to the National Assembly for legislative confirmation, marking the next step in solidifying his position as Nigeria’s top police officer.
