Fubara Appoints Christopher Green as Rivers Attorney General in Cabinet Reshuffle

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced a fresh adjustment to his cabinet, appointing the Commissioner for Sports Development, Christopher Green, as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

The decision was taken during the final State Executive Council meeting of the year, held in Port Harcourt. The latest move comes amid ongoing changes within the state government following the Supreme Court judgment on the political crisis in Rivers State, which led to the exit of some cabinet members, including the former Attorney General.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the state government confirmed that Green will now oversee the Ministry of Justice. He is also expected to continue supervising the Ministry of Sports Development until a substantive commissioner is appointed.

According to the statement, the reassignment is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and maintaining effective operations across both ministries as the administration prepares for the new year.

Meanwhile, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that what he described as a “leadership mistake” in Rivers State would be addressed in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the remark during a thank-you visit to the people of Khana in Bori, Khana Local Government Area. He said the visit was not politically motivated but was intended to express appreciation to the community for their continued support for him and President Bola Tinubu.

Fresh Abductions Rock Kogi As Gunmen Strike Yagba West Communities

Suspected gunmen have reportedly abducted multiple individuals along the Omi-Odo Ara Road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, though authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number or identities of the victims.

Residents say security agencies have been alerted, and people living in nearby communities have been urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and immediately report any suspicious activities.

This latest abduction comes just a day after an attack in Odo-Ere, another community in Yagba West, where terrorists reportedly targeted residents on Sunday night. During that raid, four individuals were confirmed kidnapped, including Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman known locally as Iya Lara.

Eyewitnesses described the Odo-Ere attack as chaotic, with heavily armed assailants reportedly moving from house to house while firing shots, causing widespread panic. Another apartment in the community was also targeted, though the attackers failed to gain entry, leaving visible bullet marks on the building.

While four victims have been identified, locals fear that more residents may have been taken during the operation. Following the attacks, community members called on security agencies and the Kogi State Government to deploy additional personnel to the area and intensify efforts to rescue those abducted.

Odo-Ere and surrounding communities in Yagba West have experienced repeated attacks in recent months, highlighting growing insecurity and the vulnerability of rural settlements in Kogi State.

The incidents coincide with other abductions across the state. On Sunday, a pastor of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, commonly known as Winners’ Chapel, was reportedly kidnapped by armed bandits while traveling to his farm in Okoro Gbedde, Ijumu Local Government Area. The cleric was later released unharmed after several days in captivity, with reports suggesting no ransom was paid.

President Tinubu Confirms January 2026 Implementation of New Tax Laws in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that Nigeria’s new tax laws will take effect from January 1, 2026, as scheduled, addressing objections raised by some groups.

In a statement released on Tuesday, President Tinubu clarified that the reforms are not intended to increase taxes but to create a more harmonized and efficient tax system.

Acknowledging public concerns, the President said that while discussions and agitations have emerged, no significant issue has been presented that would justify delaying the implementation. He emphasized that the government is committed to due process and will work closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the National Assembly, to resolve any issues that arise.

“The new tax laws, including those enacted on June 26, 2025, as well as those set to commence on January 1, 2026, will proceed as planned,” President Tinubu stated. “These reforms represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a fair, competitive, and resilient fiscal framework for our nation.”

He further explained that the tax laws are designed to support structural reform, promote harmonization, and safeguard citizens’ dignity, rather than to increase the tax burden.

President Tinubu urged all stakeholders to actively support the implementation phase, describing it as a critical stage in delivering the country’s fiscal reforms. He stressed that absolute trust in governance comes from careful, considered decisions rather than reactive measures.

Kebbi Authorities Confirm Bagudo Hospital Explosion Caused by Gas Fire, Not Bomb

Kebbi State Government and the State Police Command have dismissed rumors that a recent explosion at Bagudo General Hospital was caused by a bomb or a helicopter strike.

In statements released on Tuesday, both authorities confirmed that the incident was the result of a fire involving gas cylinders at the hospital, not any form of deliberate attack.

Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, explained that preliminary investigations indicate the blast originated in the hospital staff quarters due to a gas-related fire.

“This was not a bomb explosion nor a helicopter attack. It was a fire triggered by gas cylinders,” Bala-Tafida said. He reassured the public that no lives were lost and that residents had safely evacuated the building before the explosion occurred.

He also praised the prompt response of security agencies, saying, “We commend the Police Command and other security operatives for quickly securing the area and ensuring public safety. The state government remains dedicated to protecting lives and property.”

Confirming the report, Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the blast resulted from overheated gas cylinders linked to air-conditioning and refrigeration units.

A tactical team, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts, alongside the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, conducted an on-site evaluation and ruled out any explosive or aerial involvement.

“The assessment confirmed there were no explosives or helicopter activity. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities occurred,” Usman stated.

How To Access Your Tax ID From Jan 2026

For years, the words “Tax Identification Number”triggered anxiety for many Nigerians. It often meant long queues, repeated visits to tax offices, confusing requirements, and frustrating delays. For individuals and businesses alike, getting a Tax ID felt less like a civic duty and more like an obstacle course.

Many Nigerians quietly worried that future tax compliance would only get harder — more forms, more offices, more stress.

But a major shift is coming. And this time, it promises to make life easier.

From January 1, 2026, Nigeria will officially turn the page on the old Tax ID experience and usher in a simpler, faster, and fully digital system designed to remove unnecessary barriers and modernize tax administration.

A New Era Begins: One Identity, One Tax ID

The Joint Revenue Board (JRB), in collaboration with Nigerian Revenue Services, has announced the launch of the Nigerian Tax ID Portal — a centralized platform that eliminates the need for separate Tax ID applications.

Under the new system:

* Individuals will use their National Identification Number (NIN) as their Tax ID

* Businesses will use their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number

In other words, the identity Nigerians already have now doubles as their tax identity.

This move confirms an earlier decision by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), which aligned tax administration with Nigeria’s national identity framework. Instead of creating yet another number to remember, existing records are now directly linked to the tax system.

The result?

No fresh registrations.

No duplicate documentation.

No extra stress.

What This Means for Nigerians

This reform removes one of the biggest fears around tax compliance — complexity.

With the new setup:

* Bank accounts can be opened without additional tax paperwork

* Identity verification and tax records are seamlessly connected

* Individuals and businesses are automatically captured in the tax system

Even with the changes, a Tax Identification Number remains a unique, system-generated 13-digit number, used by authorities to manage and track taxable persons. The difference is that access is now instant and digital.

How Individuals Can Retrieve Their Tax ID

Retrieving a Tax ID under the new system is refreshingly simple:

1. Visit the official Nigerian Tax ID Portal

2. Select “Individual” on the homepage

3. Choose National Identification Number (NIN) as the retrieval method

4. Enter your 11-digit NIN and click Retrieve Tax ID

5. Provide your first name, last name, and date of birth

These must match NIMC records exactly

6. Click Continue

Within seconds, your 13-digit Tax ID appears on the screen.

How Businesses Can Retrieve Their Tax ID

The process for businesses follows a similar, straightforward path:

1. Visit the tax portal homepage

2. Select the Corporate option

3. Choose the appropriate organisation type

4. Enter the CAC registration number

5. Click Retrieve Tax ID

The system immediately displays the business’s 13-digit Tax ID.

More Than Convenience: Part of a Bigger Tax Reform

This portal is not just about ease — it is a key pillar of Nigeria’s wider tax reform agenda under the Tinubu administration.

So far:

* Four major tax reform laws have been passed

* Two took effect in June 2025

* The remaining two will commence on January 1, 2026

Despite intense public debate, the government has made it clear: implementation will move forward.

Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, has emphasized that the reforms are designed to reduce, not increase, the burden on Nigerians.

According to him:

* About 98% of workers will pay lower PAYE tax — or none at all

* Approximately 97% of small businesses will be fully tax-exempt

* Large companies will also benefit from reduced tax liabilities

Preparing the Ground Before the Takeoff

The tax reform bills spent nine months at the National Assembly, allowing government agencies ample time to prepare. Since their approval, authorities have intensified efforts in:

* Staff training

* Technology upgrades

* Public awareness campaigns

The goal is clear: a smoother rollout with minimal disruption.

The Big Picture

Taken together, the new Tax ID system and accompanying reforms aim to:

* Boost economic growth

* Encourage financial inclusion

* Support shared prosperity

* Build trust between citizens and the tax system

For millions of Nigerians, the message is simple: Tax compliance no longer has to be stressful.

And for the first time in years, the future of taxation in Nigeria feels not just manageable — but genuinely hopeful.

AY Blames Nigerian Government Over Tragic Anthony Joshua Road Accident

Popular Nigerian comedian and Nollywood actor, Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has criticised the government following a tragic road accident involving British-Nigerian boxing star, Anthony Joshua.

According to reports, the former heavyweight champion was on Monday involved in a crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun axis of Ogun State. Joshua was said to be travelling in a Lexus SUV when the vehicle rammed into a parked truck. While the boxer reportedly escaped with minor injuries, the accident claimed the lives of two people.

Reacting to the incident, AY took to his Instagram page to express deep sorrow and frustration, describing the tragedy as a clear reflection of systemic failures in Nigeria. He blamed poor road infrastructure, weak safety measures, and ineffective leadership for the recurring loss of lives on the nation’s highways.

AY lamented that it was heartbreaking for a global sports icon who has represented Nigeria with pride to return home only to experience such a devastating incident. He stressed that the deaths were not a matter of destiny, but the result of preventable failures.

He further questioned how long Nigerians would continue to lose lives due to unsafe roads and poor enforcement of safety standards, calling for urgent reforms. According to him, the situation highlights the absence of accountability and the government’s failure to prioritise human life.

The entertainer urged authorities to invest in safer road networks, stronger traffic enforcement, and efficient emergency response systems, emphasising that citizens deserve protection, not negligence.

Laide Bakare Slams Social Media Content Creation After Allwell Ademola’s Death

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has criticised what she described as insensitive behaviour by some fans and colleagues in the aftermath of the death of actress and filmmaker Allwell Ademola.

Reacting via her Instagram page, Bakare expressed disappointment that the passing of the respected movie star had quickly turned into an opportunity for online engagement rather than a moment of mourning. She lamented that instead of observing a period of sobriety, many individuals appeared eager to remain active on social media, producing entertainment content shortly after the tragic news broke.

According to Bakare, she was particularly disturbed by seeing people who were reportedly close to the late actress continuing to livestream, play games, and receive virtual gifts from followers, barely a day after Allwell’s death. She described the conduct as thoughtless and hurtful, saying it showed a lack of regard for the deceased and her family.

In her emotional post, Bakare noted that while people may act carelessly online, ultimate judgment lies with God. She added that the situation left her shocked and saddened, urging those involved to reflect on their actions. She ended her message by encouraging fans to call out such behaviour, stating that accountability was necessary.

Allwell Ademola passed away on Saturday, December 27, at the age of 49. Reports indicate that she was taken to Ancilla Hospital in Agege, Lagos, where she was later confirmed dead.

Dino Melaye Breaks Silence as Court Remands Former AGF Malami

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has weighed in on the legal troubles of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), saying the development stirred memories of his own ordeals with the courts during Malami’s time in office.

In a post shared on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Melaye recalled how he was frequently hauled before various courts while Malami served as AGF. He described the charges brought against him at the time as baseless and politically motivated.

According to Melaye, Malami’s appearance in court alongside his son reminded him of what he called the aggressive prosecutions he faced, including the alleged takeover of one of his cases by the Office of the Attorney-General. He added that despite his past experiences, he wished the former justice minister well.

Melaye’s comments followed fresh developments in Malami’s ongoing trial, as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered that the former AGF be remanded in custody over alleged money-laundering offences.

Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that Malami should be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre alongside his son, Abdulaziz Malami, and another defendant, Hajia Bashir Asabe. The remand order will remain in effect pending the hearing of their respective bail applications.

The court declined an oral bail request made by Malami’s defence team, led by J. B. Daudu, SAN. Justice Nwite explained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which opposed the application, must first be allowed to formally respond through a counter-affidavit.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter to January 2, 2026, for the hearing and ruling on the bail applications.

Malami and his co-accused are currently facing a 16-count charge bordering on money laundering, involving an alleged sum of about N9 billion. Prosecutors allege that the former minister violated provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended), offences which carry severe penalties under the law.

The EFCC further claims that the alleged illicit funds were used to purchase luxury properties in Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and other locations across the country.
