Why I Spoke About Christian Persecution In Nigeria – Nicki Minaj

American rapper Nicki Minaj has revealed that her decision to address the persecution of Christians in Nigeria stems from personal connections to the country and concerns over ongoing attacks on worshippers.

Minaj made the remarks during a surprise appearance at AmericaFest on Sunday, responding to a question from Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, about what motivated her to speak on the issue.

The rapper explained that her bond with Nigeria runs deep, citing close ties to a Nigerian pastor and friendships with Nigerians as factors that influenced her advocacy.

“Nigeria is a country I’ve always held close to my heart. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian, and I have many Nigerian friends,” Minaj said. “So hearing about people being kidnapped while attending church, or being brutalized and killed just because of their faith, that should spark outrage in all of us.”

She added, “We’re not backing down anymore. We will not be silenced by bullies. We must speak up for Christians everywhere in the world.”

Minaj also highlighted the importance of religious freedom, pointing out that many people often take their right to worship for granted.

“Every time we pray in fellowship, we should remember those who cannot openly worship God where they are. We need to pray for them and recognize the struggles they face just to practice their faith safely,” she said.

Her comments come amid rising reports of attacks on Christians in Nigeria, with kidnappings and violent assaults on worshippers increasingly making global headlines.

Mike Folarin, Daniel Etim-Effiong Share Shocking Life Stories

Popular Nollywood actor Mike Folarin has spoken candidly about what he describes as one of the most uncomfortable experiences he has faced since rising to stardom, revealing that dealing with overly excited fans has not always been pleasant.

In an interview with media personality VJ Adams, the actor disclosed that some female fans have crossed personal boundaries, including instances where he was kissed without his permission. Folarin described the experience as shocking and inappropriate, noting that it occurred during a night outing in Lagos.

According to him, the situation was made worse by the environment, as alcohol appeared to have influenced people’s behaviour. He stressed that admiration should never override personal boundaries and called on fans to always seek consent before engaging with public figures.

“Consent is extremely important,” the actor emphasized, urging fans to be respectful regardless of fame or familiarity.

Daniel Etim-Effiong Opens Up on Life-Changing University Ordeal

In a separate revelation, fellow Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has shared how a painful incident during his university days altered the course of his life and faith.

Speaking during an interview with Taymesan, Etim-Effiong recounted how he was expelled from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, after being falsely accused of belonging to a cult. The actor described the experience as devastating, especially because he maintained that the allegation was completely untrue.

Following his expulsion, he relocated to Jos, Plateau State, where he said the sudden freedom he experienced was accompanied by deep emotional turmoil. According to him, feelings of anger, confusion, and disappointment led him down a path he never imagined for himself.

He admitted that during that period, he picked up habits he associated with frustration and resentment toward life, adding that the experience strained his relationship with God.

At the time of the incident, Etim-Effiong said he was actively involved in church activities and belonged to a Christian fellowship on campus. He recalled feeling deeply hurt when the fellowship failed to defend him or speak up on his behalf despite knowing his character.

The lack of support from people he trusted, he explained, left him discouraged and spiritually disoriented. Over time, he gradually distanced himself from church, feeling abandoned during one of the most challenging seasons of his life.

Reflecting on the experience, the actor described it as a turning point that reshaped his perspective on faith, trust, and personal resilience.

PENGASSAN Warns Against Full Sale of Refineries, Cites Energy Security Risks

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has raised serious concerns over the Federal Government’s plan to dispose of its entire equity in Nigeria’s state-owned refineries, cautioning that a total sale would undermine the country’s energy security and expose it to supply risks.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, clarified that the union is not opposed to privatisation itself, but strongly rejects any move that would see the government relinquish complete ownership of the refineries.

According to Osifo, handing over 100 per cent of the assets to private investors would deprive the government of control over infrastructure that is vital to national stability, particularly during periods of supply disruption or global price volatility.

“Once the government sells off everything, it loses all control,” he said. “That is why we believe selling 100 per cent of the refineries would be harmful to Nigeria’s energy security.”

Refineries Are Strategic Assets

Osifo stressed that oil refineries should not be treated solely as profit-driven enterprises, noting that they play a crucial role in ensuring steady fuel availability, cushioning price shocks, and safeguarding national interests in times of emergency.

He explained that PENGASSAN has, for decades, encouraged the Federal Government to reduce its stake in the refineries—but never to fully exit ownership.

“Even before my tenure, and as far back as the era of Comrade Peter Esele, PENGASSAN had consistently advised government to sell part of its shares,” he said. “Our concern has always been about energy security.”

Union Backs Partial Sale Model

As an alternative, the union is advocating for a mixed ownership structure in which the government sells a controlling 51 per cent stake while retaining 49 per cent on behalf of Nigerians.

Osifo explained that such an arrangement would allow the private sector to take charge of operations and efficiency, while the government maintains a meaningful stake in a strategic national asset.

“If government sells 51 per cent, operational control naturally shifts to the private sector,” he noted. “But retaining 49 per cent ensures Nigerians still have a strong presence in these assets.”

Past Mistakes and Investor Interest

The PENGASSAN president argued that Nigeria’s downstream sector would be in a far stronger position today if successive administrations had heeded the union’s long-standing recommendations. He attributed the persistent failure of the refineries to political interference, weak maintenance practices, and inconsistent policies.

He also dismissed claims that investors might shy away from government-owned refineries, saying Nigeria’s large population and fuel demand make the assets attractive.

“There will always be investors interested,” Osifo said. “With proper maintenance and freedom from political interference, these refineries can function efficiently.”

Call for Transparent Valuation

Osifo, however, warned that any partial sale must be preceded by a thorough and transparent valuation process to prevent the country’s assets from being sold at undervalued prices.

He cautioned that rushing into privatisation without proper assessment could result in Nigeria losing critical infrastructure for far less than their true worth.

“The government must ensure a complete valuation is carried out,” he said, “so that these refineries are not sold cheaply.”

VeryDarkMan Warns Pastors as Doris Ogala Remains in Custody

Controversial social media activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has warned that he will release what he claims to be explosive and criminal evidence against two prominent clerics if Nollywood actress Doris Ogala is not released from detention by Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

According to reports, the influencer made the declaration on Sunday via a video posted on his Instagram page, where he reacted angrily to Ogala’s arrest. In the video, VeryDarkMan alleged that the actress was taken into custody because she possessed sensitive materials that could implicate certain religious leaders.

He claimed that security agencies were attempting to seize and erase the evidence in her possession.

“Let her go,” he said in the video. “Anything you think is on her phone is already with me. So releasing her is the best option.”

Issuing a clear deadline, he added that failure to release Ogala by Tuesday would trigger the public release of the alleged evidence. “If you don’t let her go, then we all begin. And when I begin, I go very hard,” he warned.

Allegations Against Religious Leaders

VeryDarkMan specifically named Pastor Chris Okafor of Grace Nation Bible Ministry and Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, accusing them of manipulating Ogala and using her to conceal what he described as serious crimes. He insisted the actress was more of a pawn than a mastermind.

“Doris is not as wicked as the pastors who used her to cover atrocities,” he alleged, claiming she was promised material rewards in exchange for her cooperation.

He further accused unnamed religious leaders of abusing their influence and exploiting women and minors under the guise of spirituality. “These so-called men of God hide behind the name of Jesus Christ to take advantage of women, children, boys, and even married women,” he said.

‘She Was Used’

The activist maintained that Ogala had already handed over all relevant evidence to him before her arrest. While acknowledging that she may have played a role, he described her as someone who acted under manipulation.

“Doris was used. She was an accomplice, yes, but she was used,” he stated, adding that many women had similar experiences involving powerful religious figures.

VeryDarkMan also claimed he had taken precautions to prevent the evidence from being suppressed. According to him, the materials have been shared with multiple trusted individuals in case he is arrested.

“I have more than enough proof, and it will get very messy,” he said. “I’ve sent the evidence to over 20 people. Even if they pick me up, the evidence will still be everywhere.”

Directly addressing the clerics, he concluded with a stern warning: “Chris Okafor, Jeremiah — I’m talking to you. If I don’t see Doris released by Tuesday, all hell will break loose.”

Background to the Arrest

Doris Ogala’s arrest has sparked intense debate across social media platforms. The actress was reportedly detained on Saturday, December 20, 2025, following a public dispute with Pastor Chris Okafor, whom she accused of failing to honour a promise of marriage.

Prior to her arrest, Ogala made several Instagram posts alleging that she helped Pastor Okafor and Prophet Fufeyin suppress investigations related to a missing child identified as Testimony, along with other alleged criminal issues.

As of the time of this report, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the Department of State Services had issued an official statement regarding VeryDarkMan’s claims. The accused clerics have also not publicly responded to the allegations.

Ghana Deports 42 Nigerians, Others After Court Convictions in Ashanti Region

The Government of Ghana has deported a total of 68 foreign nationals from the Ashanti Region following their conviction for various criminal offences by competent courts.

Among those deported were 42 Nigerian nationals who were found guilty of crimes including prostitution, internet fraud, and activities linked to Q-Net. The deportation exercise also affected 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three citizens of Burkina Faso, and seven nationals of Benin.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, confirmed the development in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, December 18, 2025. He explained that the deportations were carried out after due legal processes had been completed.

“A total of 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals, and seven Benin nationals have been deported from the Ashanti Region to their respective countries following various court rulings related to Q-Net operations, prostitution, and other criminal activities,” Amoakohene stated.

He praised the Ghana Immigration Service for its professionalism and adherence to the rule of law, noting that the agency worked closely with the courts and other security bodies to ensure the process respected human rights while safeguarding public safety.

“Their diligence and firm commitment to enforcing our immigration laws continue to help protect vulnerable persons and maintain law and order in the region,” the minister added.

Meanwhile, in a separate diplomatic move, Ghana has also deported three Israeli nationals in response to what authorities described as the mistreatment and unjust deportation of three Ghanaian travellers by Israeli officials.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the decision in an official statement shared by Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on 𝕏. According to the ministry, the Israeli nationals arrived in Accra earlier the same day but were denied entry and immediately expelled.

Nigeria Insecurity 2025 Review: Full List of Terrorist Attacks, Killings and Abductions

Nigeria’s security landscape in 2025 was marked by widespread violence that cut across nearly every region of the country.

Terrorist groups, armed bandits and communal militias carried out sustained attacks that left thousands dead, displaced entire communities and deepened fears over public safety.

By midyear, reports indicated that more than 2,200 people had lost their lives to insecurity nationwide, with the tempo of attacks increasing toward the final months of the year.

December alone reportedly accounted for over 80 deaths, underscoring how the crisis persisted despite ongoing military and security operations.

Analysts observed distinct but overlapping threats across regions: Boko Haram and Islamic State-linked fighters intensified operations in the North-East; bandit groups expanded raids and mass kidnappings in the North-West and parts of the North-Central; while communal and militia-related violence flared in the Middle Belt and the South-South.

Mass Abductions Deepen The Crisis

According to figures cited online, 2025 also witnessed an alarming surge in kidnappings, with claims that millions of Nigerians were abducted for ransom or other criminal purposes, particularly in the North-West and North-Central.

While the scale of the figure has generated debate, there is broad agreement that mass abductions remained one of the most defining features of the year’s insecurity.

Benue: Yelewata Attack Leaves Community Devastated

One of the most shocking incidents of the year occurred on June 13 in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Armed assailants suspected to be herdsmen carried out a coordinated night attack that left close to 200 residents—mostly farmers and traders—dead.

Security sources said police earlier prevented an attempted assault on a nearby church sheltering displaced persons.

Hours later, however, the attackers struck the local market area, targeting buildings where hundreds of displaced residents were resting.

The scale of the killings plunged the state and the nation into mourning.

Zamfara: Kidnap Victims Killed After Ransom Payments

In Zamfara State, the dangers of banditry were highlighted on July 27 when at least 40 kidnapped villagers were reportedly killed despite ransom payments made on their behalf.

The victims were among 56 residents abducted months earlier from Banga village in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area.

Although 16 captives eventually regained their freedom, the killing of the remaining hostages—some of them vulnerable individuals—sparked outrage and renewed criticism of ransom-driven negotiations.

Borno: Boko Haram Targets Border Community

On September 3, Boko Haram fighters attacked Darul Jamal, a community near the Nigeria–Cameroon border in Borno State.

More than 80 people, including five soldiers, were killed during the assault.

The attack came shortly after residents had returned to the area following years of displacement.

In response, the Nigerian Air Force launched retaliatory air operations, which military sources said neutralized dozens of insurgents.

Plateau: Repeated Attacks Claim Over 150 Lives

Plateau State experienced repeated waves of violence throughout the year, with cumulative fatalities exceeding 150.

* January: Gunmen attacked Mangu town, killing around 30 residents.

* April: An assault on communities in the Bokko District left at least 53 people dead and forced thousands to flee.

* June: Coordinated attacks in Riyom Local Government Area resulted in at least 58 deaths and displaced an estimated 15,000 people.

Kebbi: School Raid Claims Educator’s Life

On November 17, bandits stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Twenty-four students were abducted during the late-night raid.

The school’s vice principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was killed while attempting to protect the students. Security agencies later secured the release of all abducted girls.

Kwara: Church Attack Shakes Worshippers

A day later, on November 18, attackers struck a Christ Apostolic Church branch in Eruku town, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

At least eight worshippers were killed, while several others—including the resident pastor—were taken away.

Footage circulated online showed gunmen firing during a church gathering before abducting dozens of attendees, an incident that heightened fear and reduced attendance at public events across the region.

Niger: Mass School Abduction Triggers National Outcry

On November 21, gunmen abducted 303 students and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State.

Witnesses said the attackers arrived in the early hours of the morning and moved systematically through the school.

Dozens of pupils managed to escape, while the remaining captives were released gradually after negotiations and security interventions.

By December 21, authorities confirmed that all abducted students and teachers had regained their freedom.

A Year That Tested National Security

From rural farming communities to schools and places of worship, the 2025 insecurity crisis spared few Nigerians.
