Jarvis Confirms Breakup With Peller, Appeals for Support After Crash

Popular TikTok creator Elizabeth Amadou, widely known as Jarvis, has confirmed that she is no longer in a relationship with fellow influencer and livestreamer Hamzat Habeeb, popularly called Peller.

She has also appealed to social media users to stop ridiculing him following his recent car accident, which occurred during a live broadcast.

Jarvis made the clarification during a live video on Tuesday, as reactions continued to trail Peller’s hospitalisation after the crash on the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos. She expressed concern that online mockery and speculation were worsening an already distressing situation.

According to her, the focus of public attention should not be on blame or ridicule. She urged people to show empathy, stressing that Peller should not be judged or defined by the incident.

Jarvis explained that Peller’s struggles stem largely from emotional instability rather than bad intentions. While noting that she is better able to manage her emotions, she said Peller finds it more difficult and needs support rather than criticism.

Confirming the end of their relationship, Jarvis said the decision was painful but necessary. She emphasised that the breakup should not be interpreted as abandonment, describing Peller as kind-hearted and expressing sadness that things had reached that point.

She added that the current priority is Peller’s recovery and emotional wellbeing, not reconciliation. According to her, the separation is meant to create space for healing and clarity, not hostility or silence.

Jarvis also called on supporters to stop using the situation as content for jokes or online attacks, saying such behaviour only deepens the pain for everyone involved. She noted that the ongoing commentary had taken a toll on her emotionally.

Urging a more compassionate response, Jarvis reminded the public that the most important outcome was that no life was lost. She asked people to be grateful that Peller survived the crash and to channel their energy toward positive encouragement.

She concluded by noting that relationships sometimes end not because of hatred, but because both parties need peace, understanding and time to heal.

The appeal follows an incident reported earlier by *Naija News*, in which Peller caused alarm after crashing his car during an Instagram livestream on Sunday. The broadcast, titled “RIP Peller,” showed him driving alone in his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz while visibly emotional and distressed during a phone conversation believed to have involved Jarvis amid breakup rumours.

During the livestream, Peller appeared agitated and made several troubling remarks expressing fear and emotional pain. Moments later, the vehicle was seen swerving off the road and colliding with a stone barrier.

Nigeria to Take Delivery of 24 Italian M-346 Fighter Jets in €1.2bn Defence Deal

Nigeria is set to significantly upgrade its air power with the acquisition of 24 M-346 fighter jets from Italy under a major defence agreement with Italian aerospace and defence company, Leonardo.

The contract, finalized in November 2023 and valued at approximately €1.2 billion, ranks as the largest military aircraft procurement in West Africa. In addition to the aircraft, the deal includes a long-term logistics package that grants Leonardo exclusive responsibility for maintenance and technical support for a period of 25 years.

The M-346 is a multi-role combat aircraft designed for both training and operational missions. It is equipped with seven hardpoints capable of carrying a variety of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. The platform also supports advanced targeting pods that can be integrated with helmet-mounted display systems, improving pilot awareness and precision during combat operations.

Production of the first batch of jets is already underway in Italy. Delivery is expected to begin in 2025, with three aircraft scheduled to arrive that year. The remaining jets will be supplied in phases, with full delivery projected to be completed by mid-2026.

At the time the agreement was announced, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, said the aircraft would significantly enhance the Nigerian Air Force’s training capacity while expanding its ability to conduct operations across multiple mission environments.

Military analysts believe the introduction of the M-346 fleet will strengthen Nigeria’s air combat readiness and improve its response to evolving security threats. The jets are expected to play a key role in counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, where Nigerian forces continue to confront Boko Haram and Islamic State–affiliated groups.

Beyond counter-terrorism efforts, the new aircraft are also expected to support wider internal security operations, including efforts to curb kidnapping and banditry in other regions of the country.

Dangote Submits Petition To ICPC Against NMDPRA Boss

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has formally petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calling for an investigation into the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Ahmed Farouk, over allegations of corruption and illicit enrichment.

According to reports, the petition, dated December 16, was submitted to the office of the ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN). In the document, Dangote urged the anti-graft agency to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Farouk, alleging that his lifestyle and spending patterns are inconsistent with his legitimate earnings as a public official.

Dangote specifically accused the NMDPRA boss of expending more than $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland, allegedly paying tuition fees upfront over a six-year period. The petition reportedly detailed the names of the children, the schools they attended, and the amounts paid for each, which Dangote said were provided to aid verification by investigators.

The industrialist further alleged that Farouk abused his position as head of the NMDPRA to divert public funds for personal use and private interests, actions he claimed had contributed to recent public discontent and protests across the country.

According to the petition, Farouk has spent his entire professional career in Nigeria’s public sector, and Dangote argued that his cumulative earnings could not reasonably account for such a massive expenditure. He alleged that the funds used for the foreign education of Farouk’s teenage children were unlawfully sourced from public coffers.

Dangote described the alleged actions as violations of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement, offences he said fall squarely within the investigative and prosecutorial mandate of the ICPC under Section 19 of its enabling Act.

He noted that conviction under the law carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.

The petition emphasized the ICPC’s role, alongside other anti-corruption agencies, in tackling financial crimes and holding public officials accountable. Dangote urged the Commission to act decisively, stressing that courts have consistently punished offenders where prima facie cases are established.

Given the public interest surrounding the allegations, Dangote said he expects the ICPC to pursue the matter thoroughly in the interest of justice and transparency, adding that decisive action would help safeguard public trust and uphold the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

NBS Data Shows Oil Still Driving Nigeria’s Export Earnings in Q3 2025

Nigeria’s export earnings in the third quarter of 2025 were once again powered overwhelmingly by crude oil, with the commodity generating about ₦12.81 trillion and reinforcing the petroleum sector’s grip on the country’s foreign trade, according to new figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Data from the NBS Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics show that crude oil alone contributed 56.14 per cent of total exports during the period, reflecting a modest rebound in oil receipts within the year. While export earnings from crude dipped slightly by 4.47 per cent compared with ₦13.41 trillion recorded in Q3 2024, they rose by 7.03 per cent quarter-on-quarter from ₦11.97 trillion in Q2 2025.

The NBS said the uptick underscores the continued importance of crude oil as Nigeria’s primary source of foreign exchange. Overall, mineral products — driven largely by crude oil and petroleum gases — were valued at ₦20.01 trillion, accounting for 87.71 per cent of total exports in the quarter.

Beyond crude oil, other oil-related exports also posted strong numbers. Shipments of refined and other petroleum products climbed to ₦7.01 trillion, representing a sharp 51.72 per cent increase from ₦4.62 trillion in the same period of 2024, although this figure was 9.42 per cent lower than the ₦7.74 trillion recorded in the preceding quarter.

Total merchandise trade for the quarter stood at ₦38.94 trillion, an increase of 8.71 per cent year-on-year and 2.36 per cent higher than Q2 2025. Exports dominated trade activity, accounting for 58.59 per cent or ₦22.81 trillion, while imports amounted to ₦16.12 trillion, representing 41.41 per cent of the total.

As a result, Nigeria recorded a trade surplus of ₦6.69 trillion, even though this was 10.36 per cent lower than the surplus posted in the previous quarter. Natural gas, other petroleum gases in gaseous form, and refined products such as kerosene-type jet fuel featured prominently among the country’s top export items.

Europe leads destination chart

Europe retained its position as Nigeria’s largest export market in Q3 2025, absorbing goods worth ₦8.71 trillion, or 38.16 per cent of total exports, largely due to strong demand for crude oil. Asia followed with ₦6.40 trillion (28.07 per cent), while Africa accounted for ₦4.90 trillion, representing 21.49 per cent of exports, much of which consisted of petroleum products supplied to neighbouring countries.

At the country level, India emerged as Nigeria’s biggest export destination during the quarter, with imports valued at ₦2.26 trillion. Spain, France, the Netherlands and Italy followed, with combined purchases accounting for more than 38 per cent of Nigeria’s total exports.

Oil’s dominance was even more evident in trade with African countries and the ECOWAS sub-region. Exports to Africa totalled ₦4.90 trillion, compared with imports of ₦595.00 billion from the continent. Crude oil exports alone were valued at ₦1.94 trillion, representing nearly 40 per cent of Nigeria’s exports to Africa, followed by motor spirit and gas oil.

Within West Africa, crude oil shipments were valued at ₦1.32 trillion, making up over 42 per cent of Nigeria’s exports to the sub-region. Together with gas oil and other petroleum products, these figures highlight Nigeria’s continued role as a major energy supplier in the region.

However, the data also revealed lingering weaknesses outside the oil sector. Agricultural exports declined by 11.69 per cent year-on-year to ₦786.62 billion, while manufactured goods exports fell by 6.03 per cent to ₦978.53 billion, underscoring the persistent difficulty of expanding Nigeria’s export base beyond crude oil.

CBN Revokes Licenses of Aso & Union Homes Savings Banks Over Regulatory Breaches

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially revoked the operating licenses of Aso Savings and Loans Plc and Union Homes Savings and Loans Plc.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement signed by Hakama Sidi Ali, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN.

According to the apex bank, the decision follows repeated regulatory breaches and persistent financial instability at both institutions. The CBN emphasized that the action is part of broader efforts to strengthen the mortgage sector and ensure strict compliance with banking laws and regulations.

The move is supported by Section 12 of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020 and Section 7.3 of the Revised Guidelines for Mortgage Banks in Nigeria.

Key issues identified at the two banks include:

* Failure to maintain the minimum paid-up capital required for their license category.

* Insufficient assets to meet their liabilities.

* Critical undercapitalization, with capital adequacy ratios falling below regulatory standards.

* Non-compliance with multiple directives issued by the CBN.

Both institutions have also faced a history of operational challenges, including complaints from depositors, alleged corporate governance lapses, and delisting from the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in 2024 due to the failure to submit audited financial statements for over six years.

Senate Launches Investigation Over False Reports on Godswill Akpabio’s Health

The Nigerian Senate has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to investigate circulating reports claiming that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has passed away.

The resolution came during plenary on Tuesday after Senator Titus Zam raised a point of order, citing unverified reports circulating on various media platforms. The reports alleged that Akpabio had suffered a health emergency and was rushed to a hospital in London. Senator Zam described such misinformation as unacceptable and urged authorities to identify those responsible and hold them accountable under the law.

Presiding over the session, Akpabio acknowledged the challenge of monitoring media content, particularly stories about politicians, noting that some publications amounted to “garbage in, garbage out.”

Earlier, Akpabio’s media team had dismissed claims that he collapsed and was flown abroad for urgent medical attention. Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, told Daily Post, “It’s a lie, fake news,” without providing additional details.

The controversy follows a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Akpabio collapsed on December 10 and was flown to London in a private jet reportedly provided by billionaire Aliko Dangote. The report also claimed that the Senate President was absent from official engagements, including the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) session held last Wednesday.

During the session, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi represented Akpabio, highlighting the Senate President’s absence at a key legislative event.

ISWAP Executes Eight Alleged Nigerian Spies in Borno State

Security sources report that the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has executed eight individuals accused of spying for the Nigerian government.

According to security analyst Brant Philip, who shared the information on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the victims included members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and one police officer. The group reportedly captured them from their homes across different villages in Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

Philip explained, “ISWAP announced a new series of executions targeting spies and CJTF operatives loyal to the Nigerian army. The victims were taken from their residences, including a police officer apprehended between Gubio and Damasak. All eight men were executed on the same day, despite being captured at separate times and locations.”

He suggested that the executions may be linked to intelligence retrieved from the phone of the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was previously captured and killed by ISWAP. “It is possible that these killings are a direct result of intelligence leaks from Brigadier General Musa Uba’s phone,” Philip added.

Earlier, Philip had reported that ISWAP had released images showing the execution of two Nigerian army informants dressed in orange jumpsuits, indicating that a full video of the killings might be published by the group in the near future.

Umahi Says Igbo Marginalisation Debate Is Over, Credits Tinubu’s Infrastructure Drive

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stated that the Igbo community is no longer marginalised, asserting that calls for Biafra are now “unjustified.”

Speaking during an inspection of federal projects in the Southeast, Umahi said the region has witnessed unprecedented inclusion in national development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He linked the diminishing Igbo marginalisation debate to the extensive infrastructure investments currently underway in the region. According to the minister, improved integration and visible federal presence have addressed grievances that historically fueled separatist movements.

Infrastructure Investments Changing Perceptions

Umahi noted that past administrations left many Igbos feeling excluded, which amplified agitation and separatist sentiments. “In previous governments, our people felt very much marginalised, and that was the reason some advocated for Biafra. Today, we are fully integrated into the mainstream of the nation,” he said.

He argued that strategic federal projects across the Southeast are reducing the relevance of the Igbo marginalisation discourse.

Major Projects Across the Southeast

The minister highlighted several key projects that he says demonstrate the federal government’s commitment to the region:

* The Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway

* The Owerri–Onitsha Expressway

* Section 2B of the Second Niger Bridge

* A 123-kilometre highway from Ndibe Beach in Ebonyi State to the Benue border

Umahi emphasized that these initiatives represent investments worth hundreds of billions of naira, prioritizing durability and long-term benefits.

Tinubu’s Administration Praised

The Works Minister also commended President Tinubu for prioritising the Southeast in national development, saying the region now feels “comfortable” and “very happy.” He urged Southeast leaders to pursue political influence through strategic engagement rather than relying on sentiment or rhetoric tied to past marginalisation debates.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio Denies Collapsing, Labels Reports as Fake News

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed online claims suggesting he collapsed and was rushed abroad for emergency medical care.

Reacting to the reports on Monday, Kenny Okolugbo, a Consultant on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, categorically denied the story, describing it as false. When contacted by Daily Post regarding the claims, Okolugbo simply stated, “It’s a lie, fake news,” without offering further details.

The denial follows a report by Sahara Reporters which alleged that Akpabio collapsed on December 10 and was flown to London in a private jet purportedly arranged by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote. The report further claimed that the Senate President is currently receiving medical treatment overseas.

Speculation around Akpabio’s health gained traction after his absence from last Wednesday’s session on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), a key legislative engagement focused on Nigeria’s fiscal outlook. In his absence, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi reportedly presided over proceedings.

A source within the National Assembly, quoted in the report, claimed that Akpabio had missed the MTEF presentation and alleged that this was the second occasion he had been flown to London for medical attention, raising questions about his capacity to continue leading the 10th Senate.

However, beyond Okolugbo’s brief dismissal of the claims, the Senate leadership has yet to release an official statement addressing the reports as of the time this article was filed.

Nigeria Begin AFCON 2025 Preparations in Cairo as 22 Super Eagles Train

Nigeria intensified its build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday evening as the Super Eagles held their first full training session in Cairo, with 22 players taking part.

Head coach Eric Chelle oversaw the workout, which marked a major step forward in preparations despite the absence of several high-profile attackers. Star forwards Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon were not involved and are now unlikely to feature in Tuesday’s international friendly against Egypt.

The team’s Cairo camp had gradually come together over the weekend with the arrival of officials and a handful of early-reporting players. Monday’s session, however, represented Chelle’s first opportunity to work with the bulk of his squad on the training pitch.

Squad numbers were boosted by the arrival of Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Alebiosu, who received a late invitation following injury setbacks to Ola Aina and Benjamin Fredrick.

While the camp continues to fill up, six players are still yet to report. Those expected to join in the coming days include Osimhen, Chukwueze, Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Usman Muhammed and Salim Fago Lawal.
