2027 Presidency: El-Rufai Debunks Viral Claim on Zoning

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has firmly rejected claims circulating online that he declared the 2027 presidential race should be zoned to the southern part of Nigeria.

The former governor was recently quoted by an online platform as saying he would not seek the presidency in 2027 because it was “the turn of the South,” adding that his political ambitions would only resurface in 2031. The statement, allegedly shared via a post on X (formerly Twitter), quickly gained traction across social media.

However, El-Rufai has described the claim as completely false. In a statement released on Monday, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory dismissed the report as fabricated, insisting he never made such remarks either online or during any public engagement.

According to him, at no time did he endorse or oppose the idea of regional zoning for the 2027 presidential election. He stressed that any statement attributed to him suggesting otherwise did not originate from him.

El-Rufai further clarified that he communicates his personal opinions only through his verified social media accounts and during interviews with credible media organisations. He warned against attributing statements, commentary or political positions to him without direct confirmation from those platforms.

The former governor also cautioned against the growing trend of misinformation and politically motivated content online, noting that the misuse of social media has made it easier for false narratives to spread rapidly.

He urged the public to verify information before sharing it and emphasised that views expressed by other writers, even when shared on his platforms as part of broader national discussions, should not be mistaken for his personal stance.

Business Climate Scares Investors Away From NNPC Refineries — Dangote

Africa’s wealthiest individual and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has expressed strong doubts about the viability of Nigeria’s refining sector, stating that the country’s current business climate is discouraging enough to scare off any serious investor.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos on Sunday, Dangote argued that Nigeria’s downstream oil industry is weighed down by regulatory and operational challenges that make it unattractive, even if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited were to put its refineries on the market.

According to the billionaire industrialist, the problem goes beyond pricing or ownership, pointing instead to an unfriendly investment environment that offers little incentive for private capital. He maintained that under existing conditions, the prospect of finding buyers for the government-owned refineries is unrealistic.

Dangote criticised past policy decisions in the oil and gas sector, singling out the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari for what he described as a critical misstep. He said the decision to assign regulatory oversight to individuals with trading backgrounds created a conflict that undermined effective regulation.

In his view, a regulator must be independent and neutral, not a market participant. Dangote warned that blurring those roles distorted the sector, weakened investor confidence and contributed to the current challenges facing Nigeria’s energy industry.

He further noted that the consequences of these policy errors extend beyond the oil sector, arguing that Nigeria as a whole is paying the price through reduced investment inflows and stalled industrial growth.

Nigeria currently operates three state-owned refineries located in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna, with a combined installed capacity of about 445,000 barrels per day. However, years of underperformance and repeated shutdowns have continued to raise questions about their economic viability.

#EndSARS: No Massacre at Lekki Tollgate, Says Former Information Minister Lai Mohammed

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has once again dismissed claims that a massacre occurred at the Lekki Tollgate during the nationwide #EndSARS protests of October 2020, maintaining that while lives were lost during the unrest, no such incident happened at the Lagos protest ground.

Lai Mohammed made the assertion on Monday while appearing on Sunrise Daily, a programme aired on Channels Television.

According to him, the Federal Government under the late President Muhammadu Buhari never denied that casualties were recorded during the #EndSARS demonstrations, but has consistently rejected reports of a mass killing at the Lekki Tollgate.

He explained that several security personnel lost their lives across the country during the protests, noting that 37 police officers and six soldiers were among those killed. He added that the government publicly acknowledged these deaths and provided figures covering different states, including Kano and Abuja.

However, Mohammed stressed that the controversy surrounding Lekki Tollgate was based on misinformation. He said the government’s position remains that no massacre took place at the location, a claim he said brought him into direct disagreement with international media outlet CNN.

According to the former minister, CNN’s reporting on the incident relied on second-hand accounts rather than first-hand presence at the scene. He described the narrative of a Lekki massacre as flawed, arguing that it lacked concrete evidence.

Mohammed further stated that the Lekki Tollgate episode has been wrongly labelled as a massacre despite the absence of physical proof such as identified victims. He described it as a unique claim unlike any other in global history, insisting that no bodies were recovered from the site.

The former minister disclosed that he dedicated an entire chapter of his recently published book, Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments That Defined an Administration, to the Lekki Tollgate controversy. He said the book was written to address and clarify what he considers widespread misconceptions in the public domain.

Reiterating his stance, Mohammed challenged anyone with proof of a relative who allegedly died at the Lekki Tollgate on the night of October 20, 2020, to come forward, maintaining that while deaths occurred elsewhere during the protests, the Lekki Tollgate was not the scene of a massacre.

“Love Yourself First” — Bobrisky Reacts to Peller’s Car Accident Controversy

Popular social media personality and controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has weighed in on the ongoing drama surrounding TikTok influencer Peller following his recent car accident and relationship issues involving fellow creator, Jarvis.

Reacting via a post on his Instagram page, Bobrisky criticised Peller’s actions, describing them as avoidable and careless. He questioned why personal relationship challenges would drive the young influencer into decisions capable of putting his life and newly acquired property at risk.

Bobrisky expressed concern that Peller allowed emotional stress linked to his relationship to overwhelm his judgment, especially at a time when he should be focused on protecting his future. He also hinted that he knew someone he believed would be a better match for the TikTok star, suggesting that Peller deserved a more stable relationship.

The social media figure further urged Peller to take a step back, think rationally and stop allowing romantic problems to dictate his choices. According to him, no relationship is worth endangering one’s life or hard-earned success.

Extending his advice beyond Peller, Bobrisky addressed young people generally, encouraging them to prioritise self-worth and personal well-being in relationships. He noted that while love is important, it should never come at the expense of self-respect or emotional stability.

“I Found Peace at 40” — Tonto Dikeh Shares Powerful Deliverance Testimony

Popular Nollywood actress and political figure, Tonto Dikeh, has shared a deeply personal testimony detailing her journey to spiritual and personal freedom after years of battling anger, substance abuse and other private struggles.

The outspoken movie star opened up during a recent Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church, where she delivered her testimony before worshippers at the altar. The church is led by renowned cleric, Pastor Jerry Eze.

In her emotional address, Tonto revealed that she was introduced to smoking at a very young age, a habit that followed her well into adulthood. She also spoke candidly about long-standing struggles with alcohol and masturbation, describing them as spiritual battles that only ended through intense prayer and divine intervention.

According to the actress, stepping forward to share her story was not an easy decision, as she briefly considered holding back out of fear of public perception. However, she said she ultimately chose honesty over image, insisting that her transformation was more important than maintaining appearances.

Reflecting on her past, Tonto disclosed that she had lived with uncontrollable anger for years, an issue she said negatively affected her relationships and personal life. She explained that her participation in the church’s NSPPD prayer platform marked a turning point, bringing an end to what she described as “demonic anger” and replacing it with inner calm.

She also recounted a significant spiritual experience following her attendance at the Ghana Prayer Conference, saying she noticed a sudden shift in recurring spiritual attacks that had plagued her since childhood. According to her, the disturbing dreams and feelings of captivity she once experienced simply stopped.

Tonto further revealed that true peace had been absent from her life until recently, despite her success and public status. Now 40, she said she is experiencing a sense of peace she had never known before.

Victor Osimhen Faces Possible Ban in Turkey After AFCON-Linked Suspension Controversy

Victor Osimhen has found himself at the heart of a growing storm in Turkey, with accusations that the Super Eagles striker may have deliberately picked up a suspension to clear the way for his participation at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigerian forward became a major talking point following his club’s Turkish Super Lig clash with Antalyaspor on Saturday. Already on a disciplinary warning after previous bookings against Beşiktaş, Kocaelispor and Fenerbahçe, Osimhen received another yellow card late in the contest, this time in the 85th minute.

That caution proved decisive. It took him beyond the allowable booking limit, triggering an automatic one-game ban that will rule him out of his club’s next league fixture against Kasımpaşa.

What has raised eyebrows, however, is the timing. Osimhen has been named in Nigeria’s 28-man squad for the upcoming AFCON, meaning the suspension is expected to be served during the international window. This would allow him to return to club duty without any lingering domestic punishment, a development that has fuelled speculation in the Turkish media.

According to reports from Turkish outlet Gazete Gerçek, the situation may not be settled yet. The Nigerian striker could still be summoned by the Turkish Football Federation’s Professional Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) for further scrutiny.

The report claims the incident may be reviewed under Article 37 of the federation’s disciplinary regulations, which deals with cases where players are suspected of intentionally forcing a yellow card for tactical reasons. If investigators conclude that Osimhen deliberately engineered the booking, the consequences could be more severe.

Under Article 37, a player found guilty of such conduct faces a minimum two-match suspension. That outcome would see Osimhen sidelined for several key fixtures, potentially including games against İstanbul Başakşehir, Trabzonspor, Gaziantep FK and Fethiyespor, depending on how long Nigeria’s AFCON campaign lasts.

For now, Osimhen is preparing to report for international duty with the Super Eagles, while his club and fans anxiously await whether the disciplinary process in Turkey will escalate beyond the initial one-match ban.

Super Eagles Hit Camp Ahead of AFCON 2025 Friendly Against Egypt

Several Super Eagles players have begun reporting for duty in Egypt as Nigeria steps up preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who plies his trade in South Africa, was one of the earliest arrivals at the team’s base in Cairo.

He was soon joined by Francis Uzoho, along with Italy-based midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, as the national team’s camp officially opened on Sunday evening at the Renaissance Hotel.

More reinforcements are expected before the end of the night, with Igoh Ogbu, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Tochukwu Nnadi, Amas Obasogie, Ademola Lookman, and Semi Ajayi all scheduled to link up with the squad.

The Super Eagles will waste no time, as head coach Eric Chelle has lined up the team’s first training session for Monday.

Nigeria will then face long-time rivals Egypt in a pre-tournament friendly at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday, serving as the final tune-up ahead of the continental showpiece.

Earlier in the week, Chelle released his final 28-man squad for the tournament, making notable decisions that sparked discussion.

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was omitted, while Francis Uzoho earned a return after a prolonged absence from the national setup.

The coach retained a strong core of experienced players, including Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka, Ademola Lookman, and Nwabali, as he aims to strike a balance between stability and fresh energy.

The squad also features several returnees and debutants. Igoh Ogbu and Paul Onuachu are back in the fold, while promising newcomers such as Ryan Alebiosu, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Usman Muhammed, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Salim Fago Lawal are set for their first taste of senior international football.

Nigeria will lock horns with Egypt on December 16 before traveling to Fès, Morocco, where all their Group C matches will be played.

The Super Eagles open their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on December 23, face Tunisia on December 27, and conclude the group stage against Uganda on December 30.
