APC Screening Panel Blocks Omisore, Top Contenders From Osun Primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening panel has disqualified former National Secretary, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, along with six other governorship hopefuls, from participating in the party’s Osun State primary scheduled for December 13.

The committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, announced that the affected aspirants were removed from the race after significant inconsistencies and omissions were found in their nomination documents.

Uzoh urged party stakeholders to prioritise reconciliation and unity as the APC heads toward what he described as a critical governorship contest.

Only Two Aspirants Cleared

Out of the nine individuals screened, only Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji met every requirement outlined in the APC Constitution and the party’s guidelines for the 2025 governorship primary.

According to the committee, the seven disqualified aspirants—

* Sen. Iyiola Omisore,

* Babatunde Haketer Oralusi,

* Oyedotun Babayemi,

* Dr. Akinade Akanmu Ogunbiyi,

* Benedict Olugboyega Alabi,

* Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and

* Sen. Babajide Omoworare,

failed to provide proof that they were sponsored by five fully registered, financially up-to-date APC members in each of Osun’s Local Government Areas, as mandated by Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

A Transparent Screening Process, Panel Insists

In its report submitted on Friday, the committee said it relied on a two-step evaluation process:

1. Document Verification – All forms, declarations, and attachments were thoroughly vetted for authenticity and compliance.

2. Structured Interviews – Each aspirant was interviewed to assess preparedness, knowledge of party rules, and adherence to nomination standards.

The committee stressed that the process was designed to be “transparent, fair and objective.”

Petition Sparks Wider Review

The panel also confirmed receiving a petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group, which alleged that two initially cleared aspirants did not satisfy mandatory nomination criteria.

After reviewing the claims, the committee determined that the issues raised were substantial and relevant to safeguarding the integrity of the process.

Rather than addressing the concerns selectively, the committee expanded its review, ultimately affirming that only Jimoh and Oyebamiji fully complied with all requirements.

Deep Factionalism in Osun APC

The report highlighted lingering internal divisions within the Osun APC, warning that a fractured party threatens its prospects both at the primary and in the governorship election, slated by INEC for August 8, 2026.

To avert further turmoil, the committee recommended that the national leadership activate a comprehensive reconciliation mechanism to bridge factional gaps. It also advised equitable distribution of appointments, campaign positions, and party offices across all political blocs in the state.

Committee Reiterates Commitment to Fairness

Expressing gratitude to the APC National Working Committee for the confidence placed in its members, the panel reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the party’s principles of fairness, credibility, and due process.

Regina Daniels: Ned Nwoko Pushes for Social Media Regulation After Viral Allegation Against Him

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, has renewed his call for the passage of the social media regulation bill, following a viral apology video from a TikToker who had falsely accused him of plotting to kill his wife and Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Friday, Nwoko said the incident highlights how Nigeria’s online environment has become “one of the most unregulated in the world,” with individuals freely spreading damaging allegations simply to gain views and online traction.

According to him, defamation has become a weapon in the country’s digital space, especially as many online users have learned to exploit public emotions—making severe accusations and later offering apologies once legal or social pressure mounts.

Nwoko argued that the persistence of such behaviour is partly due to the absence of strong regulations governing social media operations in Nigeria.

Nwoko: Social Media Platforms Must Register and Operate in Nigeria

The Senator urged Nigerians to support his proposed legislation, which seeks to mandate social media companies to register and maintain physical offices within the country.

He explained that enforcing such a requirement would not only ensure accountability but would also provide significant national benefits such as:

* Employment opportunities for Nigerians

* Technology transfer from global tech companies

* Better tax compliance and revenue generation

* More accessible litigation, eliminating the need to pursue cases in foreign countries

* Improved tracking of bandits and cybercriminals

* Local control of user data, rather than leaving it in the hands of foreign entities

In his words: “The recent trending video shows clearly that our social media space is now a free-for-all. People lay serious allegations just to attract millions of views with no regard for the harm caused. They know they can escape consequences by preying on public emotions and later returning with an apology.”

Nwoko added that if Nigerian landlords can be held liable for crimes committed by tenants, then social media platforms should also be held responsible for enabling defamatory and harmful content.

He continued: “Our local media houses comply with defamation laws. Why should foreign tech companies—who don’t pay taxes and evade liability—be exempt? Without proper regulation, this problem will only worsen. It’s Senator Ned today; who knows who is next?”

A Call for Public Support

Nwoko appealed to Nigerians to back his proposed bill, emphasizing that it is not designed to silence citizens but to promote accountability, strengthen national security, and protect individuals from unchecked online abuse.

Peter Obi Denies Viral Interview Criticizing the ADC

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has debunked reports alleging that he criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a supposed interview circulating online.

The controversial report, shared earlier in the week, claimed that Obi accused the ADC of struggling due to unresolved zoning arrangements and disagreements over the rotation of key political offices.

The alleged comments were said to have been made during an interview uploaded to YouTube by a channel called “Advocacy for Good Governance.”

But in a statement issued on Friday, Obi’s media aide, Ibrahim Umar, dismissed the claims as entirely fabricated.

According to Umar: “The Peter Obi Media Office (POMO) is once again compelled to debunk false and malicious claims about an interview Mr. Peter Obi supposedly granted. We categorically deny that he granted such an interview or made any remarks against the Action Democratic Congress (ADC).”

He stressed that Obi has maintained a respectful and cooperative relationship with the ADC, praising the party’s leadership under former Senate President David Mark. Umar noted that the false narrative contradicted Obi’s long-standing position of collaboration with groups committed to strengthening democracy and building a better Nigeria.

Umar added that Obi’s recent public engagements have focused on promoting unity and joint strategies to tackle poor governance and economic suffering—rather than attacking any opposition party.

Shallipopi Fires Back at Daniel Regha Over Harsh Review of “Auracle” Album

Afrobeats sensation Shallipopi has responded sharply to popular social media critic Daniel Regha after the latter delivered a scathing assessment of his newly released album, Auracle.

However, Regha faulted the project for what he described as a lack of lyrical depth, creativity, and overall artistic progression.

While noting that a few instrumentals stood out, he argued that the quality of the album dipped noticeably from track to track.

In his view, Shallipopi would have been better off releasing a shorter EP rather than a full-length album.

Despite his heavy criticism, Regha admitted that “Pull Up”, featuring UK-Gambian rapper Pa Salieu, carried an impressive flow—though he credited much of the track’s strength to the guest artiste.

In his review, Regha wrote: “Shallipopi can’t be considered a real artiste, just someone with access to a studio. His album ‘Auracle’ is a painful listen with no lyrical evolution, substance, or creativity. Apart from a few good beats, each song gets worse than the one before it. He should have selected four or five tracks and made an EP. It may do numbers because of current listening habits, but it won’t elevate anyone’s IQ or become a cultural reset. That said, ‘Pull Up’ has a good flow thanks to Pa Salieu. It’s a 1/10. No offense.”

The critique did not sit well with Shallipopi, who shot back with a blunt response, writing: “SYBAU. You know nothing about music.”

Speaking during a podcast appearance, Omah Lay revealed that the request came after the success of their previously acclaimed collaboration, “With You.”

Despite the promising prospect of creating another smash hit, the 28-year-old singer said he felt the timing wasn’t right for him.

According to him, he needed to step back and concentrate on shaping his own artistic direction. Omah Lay emphasized that his decision had nothing to do with any personal issues, noting that he holds Davido in high regard.

He explained: “After we dropped the hit song ‘With You,’ Davido called me for a new collaboration, but I declined because I have my own career to build as well.”

The singer stressed that this period of his life is dedicated to personal development, future projects, and strengthening his individual brand.

Newly appointed Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), officially assumed office on Friday at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Ship House, Abuja, in a ceremony marked by full military honours.

Why Security Agencies Can’t Track Bandits Online: Daniel Bwala Explains

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has clarified why Nigerian security agencies often face difficulties tracking armed bandits who openly display ransom cash on platforms like TikTok and other social media channels.

During an interview on Nigeria Info FM, Bwala was asked why ordinary Nigerians who express anger or frustration online are quickly traced and arrested, while terrorists who have terrorized communities for years remain elusive despite boldly showcasing illicit money online.

Bwala explained that the major challenge lies in the type of internet services bandits rely on.

According to him, Nigerians who post online typically use local internet providers, making it easy for security agencies to trace their SIM-registered details and IP addresses through domestic regulatory bodies. Bandits, however, operate outside this digital footprint.

He said: “There is a regulatory body in Nigeria that has the database of Nigerians and their phone numbers. There is also an agency responsible for monitoring internet service providers, so if you are using a service within Nigeria, your IP address can be tracked.”

Bwala added that many criminals intentionally avoid Nigerian networks altogether.

“If you are using Starlink, we cannot trace it because Starlink is not registered in Nigeria; it operates from space. The same challenge is being faced in Ukraine and Russia.

Most of these terrorists use cellular networks from neighbouring countries, not Nigeria. That is why tracking them becomes very tricky.”

Ungwan Nungu Under Threat: Terrorists Vow Revenge Over Seized AK-47 and Cash

Residents of Ungwan Nungu in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State are living in fear after terrorists issued chilling threats of retaliation following a military operation that left two gang members dead and led to the seizure of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and roughly ₦1.6 million.

Community sources told newsmen on Friday that the new threats emerged only days after 10 villagers—six women and four men—were abducted while working on their farms on November 29, a pattern that has become distressingly routine.

According to residents, security forces confronted the terrorists on Friday as they arrived to pick up ransom payments for the abducted villagers. Soldiers reportedly recovered an AK-47 rifle, a round of 9mm ammunition, and cash believed to be ransom funds.

Shortly after the clash, the terrorists released a Hausa-language audio message accusing locals of tipping off the military about their movements, which they claim led to the deadly ambush.

“The voice note came from the terrorists. They are threatening us because two of their members were reportedly killed,” a community member said.

This is not the first attack on Ungwan Nungu. In an earlier incident, about 15 people—mostly children—were kidnapped, with five later abandoned by the attackers because they were too weak to continue walking.

The newly released audio message, however, marks a significant escalation. In the recording, one of the terrorists vowed that the group would unleash violent reprisals on the community.

“We will return and retaliate,” terrorist warns

In the voice note, the terrorist issued a series of ominous threats: “Is that why you sent soldiers to us?

I swear to Almighty God, we have ‘entered the same trousers’ with you.

Everything the soldiers did to us, we will repay. If we are still alive, we will definitely retaliate.”

He warned that after regrouping, the gang would return to punish the community for the alleged betrayal.

The fighter also demanded that the village pay for the AK-47 rifle seized by soldiers, threatening widespread attacks if they failed to comply.

“Because of that one rifle, only God knows how many lives will be lost unless you pay.

From the farms to the roads to the villages—even security operatives—we will attack you.”

He gave the community a two-month ultimatum, adding: “If you refuse to pay, we will come ourselves and take it.”

Community denies alerting soldiers

In response to the threats, a community representative in the audio pleaded with the terrorists, insisting villagers did not contact the military.

“I swear to God, we did not send soldiers to you.

The military is even angry with us because they claim we hide information from them.”

He explained that the Nigerian military had earlier confronted residents for negotiating ransom payments without informing security forces.

Community living in fear

With terrorists openly naming farmlands, roads, and homes as future attack zones, villagers say Ungwan Nungu has been plunged into fear and uncertainty. Residents now remain on high alert, unsure when or how the threats will materialise.

2Baba: My Family Destroyed Me and Natasha—Situation Out of Control

Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has voiced deep concern over a wave of death threats allegedly targeted at his partner, Natasha, following the circulation of videos capturing a heated altercation between the couple in London.

The situation intensified after the Idibia family submitted a formal petition to the Inspector-General of Police, accusing Natasha of physical assault, unauthorized financial access, and withholding of critical documents belonging to the singer.

In the petition dated November 12, the family urged authorities to begin a full-scale investigation, claiming the incidents had caused 2Baba emotional distress, financial setbacks, and reputational damage.

According to the document, both the singer and various witnesses reported episodes of assault in London and Abuja.

The family further alleged that Natasha unlawfully accessed funds through 2Baba’s phone and bank accounts and withheld his personal documents—most notably his passport—thereby obstructing him from honouring business obligations.

But in a dramatic twist, 2Baba has publicly rejected his family’s narrative.

In a video shared on social media on Friday, the acclaimed singer accused his relatives of tearing his life apart and unjustly tarnishing Natasha’s reputation.

He insisted that the situation has escalated beyond reason and declared that he would no longer remain silent, asserting his right to make personal choices as an adult.

According to him, disagreements within relationships are normal and should not be sensationalised. He also claimed that this pattern of interference from his family previously occurred during his marriage to Annie Idibia.

“This whole situation has gotten dangerously out of hand,” he said. “Natasha is receiving death threats. I won’t stay quiet anymore. I’m grown and I have the right to choose who I want to be with. My family, who claim they’re trying to save me, have actually destroyed me and dragged someone’s daughter through the mud.

“Yes, Natasha and I had a quarrel—tell me, which couple doesn’t? Things are getting blown out of proportion. I’m perfectly okay. My family did the same thing with Annie.”
