Ngige Recounts Deadly Attack on His Convoy, Dispels Rumours of Death

Former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, has narrated how his convoy came under heavy attack—an incident that claimed the life of a woman who was recording the confrontation.

Speaking to journalists after receiving a condolence visit from former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Ngige explained that the assault occurred while his personal aides were returning from various errands, including taking one of his vehicles for servicing.

Ngige, who confirmed he had been in Anambra since Saturday, dismissed social media speculation claiming he had died in the attack.

“As you can see, I’m alive. I am not dead, so there is no need for panic,” he assured.

Detailing how the violence unfolded, Ngige said his security team encountered the gunmen at Umuoji when they noticed suspicious vehicles speeding toward them. The attackers reportedly reversed, gave chase, and then opened fire.

According to him, the assailants wore police and military uniforms, which made the ambush even more deceptive.

“My driver had to outmaneuver them until the convoy ran into a shop. The attackers caught up with my police escorts, and after an intense exchange, one officer ran out of ammunition. They shot him in the leg, stripped him of his uniform, and took his rifle,” he recounted.

Ngige added that the attackers insulted the policemen, accusing them of serving a “zoo government,” which made him suspect a broader agenda aimed at destabilizing security structures in the state.

He said he had already contacted the Anambra State Governor, who assured him the gang would be tracked down, stressing that allowing such criminals to operate freely could endanger the relative calm the state has enjoyed over the past three months.

“We are entering the Christmas season. Our people will be coming home. This group has a pattern—operating in police uniforms and seizing weapons. They must be apprehended,” Ngige warned.

When asked whether he believed he was specifically targeted, Ngige said it was possible, given how recognizable his convoy is. However, he also suggested that the attackers might have simply been hunting for policemen to disarm.

“My pilot driver has driven me for 22 years; anyone who knows him knows I’m nearby. So, it may have been intentional. But it could also be coincidence—they may have just seen a convoy with police escorts and decided to strike. Either way, targeting me is pointless,” he said.

No School Closure: Fintiri Refutes Viral Reports, Warns Against Misinformation

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has debunked reports alleging that his administration ordered the closure of all boarding secondary schools across the state.

This clarification comes nearly a week after the Commissioner for Education and Human Development, Umar Pella, reportedly announced that boarding schools were being shut down due to rising insecurity across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri described the circulating reports as misleading, unfounded, and capable of causing unnecessary panic.

According to him, at no time did he instruct any ministry or official to halt school activities. He urged parents, students, and school authorities to disregard the rumours and maintain normal academic operations.

Fintiri cautioned that his administration would not hesitate to deal decisively with those deliberately spreading misinformation aimed at creating fear and destabilizing public peace.

The Governor emphasized that the state has invested heavily in overhauling the education sector and remains committed to ensuring that teaching and learning continue uninterrupted across Adamawa.

“The attention of the Adamawa State Government has been drawn to misleading information suggesting that schools have been directed to shut down,” the statement read.

“We categorically state that this claim is false. At no time did the government issue such an order. This baseless rumour is the handiwork of mischief-makers intent on tarnishing the government’s image and causing unnecessary tension.”

The statement further warned that individuals or groups spreading falsehoods would face legal consequences.

“We will not tolerate attempts to disrupt our progress in repositioning the education sector. Anyone found guilty of circulating malicious rumours will be dealt with according to the law,” it added.

Why Kano State Is Calling for Ganduje’s Arrest

The Kano State Government has called for the immediate arrest of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of making destabilizing remarks that allegedly coincided with rising insecurity in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this on Friday while addressing journalists on resolutions reached during the weekly State Executive Council meeting.

According to Waiya, the state recorded a disturbing security breach barely two days after Ganduje publicly declared his intention to form what he described as a “militia group” in Kano.

He said bandits reportedly infiltrated one of the state’s communities and abducted several residents shortly after the former governor’s comments.

“Less than 48 hours after former Governor Ganduje’s outburst about wanting to create a militia group in Kano, bandits invaded a community and kidnapped multiple people,” Waiya stated, suggesting a troubling correlation between the remarks and renewed criminal activity.

Waiya also reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to safeguard lives and property, noting that the federal government has shown commitment to addressing the state’s security challenges.

Meanwhile, Ganduje — who serves as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) — has been holding political consultations of his own in Kano.

Speaking at the closing session of a four-day strategy meeting at his residence, Ganduje announced that APC leaders across the state had agreed to begin openly endorsing President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The gathering brought together APC chairmen, caucus members, and influential stakeholders from all 44 local government areas.

Ganduje said the meetings were designed to rebuild trust, strengthen party unity, and reinforce Kano’s relevance within the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The purpose of this engagement over the last three days has been to ensure complete unity in our party and to reaffirm our loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” he told attendees.

He added that the large turnout and enthusiasm displayed by party delegates demonstrated their commitment to keeping the APC dominant both in Kano State and across Nigeria.

DSS Summons Datti Baba-Ahmed Over Alleged Inciting Comments on National Television

The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed — founder of Baze University and the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate — for questioning over statements the agency reportedly considers capable of inciting tension in the country.

According to information obtained by Zagazola Makama, security officials have grown increasingly concerned about the former lawmaker’s recent public commentary, particularly his repeated assertions that Nigeria is facing what he described as a “constitutional crisis.”

A security insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Baba-Ahmed’s most recent television appearance triggered renewed alarm within the intelligence community.

During the broadcast, he allegedly criticized both the judiciary and the military for permitting the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, claiming their actions enabled conditions that emboldened the military to “look civilians in the face and call them ‘bloody fools.’”

The source described the remarks as “incendiary,” warning that such rhetoric could further inflame national tensions at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate a sensitive political environment.

He noted that similar narratives had contributed to instability in other West African nations, including Guinea-Bissau, making it essential for authorities to address issues of misinformation and provocative political speech early.

“The DSS is handling the matter with caution. This isn’t about politics,” the insider said. “It’s about preventing comments that could, intentionally or not, endanger the stability and unity of the country.”

The source further explained that Baba-Ahmed’s invitation is not intended as punishment, but rather a preventive step to seek clarification on his statements, understand their context, and avert the spread of narratives that could stir unrest or misinterpretation among the public.

“It’s a routine engagement,” he added. “The goal is to ensure that public figures remain mindful of how their statements can influence national discourse.”

Jonathan Shares Dramatic Evacuation Story as Tinubu, Ouattara Deploy Planes Amid Guinea-Bissau Coup

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has shared new details about the tense hours he and his delegation faced during the recent military takeover in Guinea-Bissau — and how swift intervention from two West African leaders ensured their safe evacuation.

Speaking with journalists, Jonathan revealed that both Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara independently deployed aircraft to extract him and his team once instability broke out in Bissau.

According to him, the Ivorian rescue plane reached the country first. Côte d’Ivoire, being geographically closer to Guinea-Bissau, secured landing clearance more quickly — a development Jonathan attributed to stronger regional air-traffic ties.

With the Ivorian aircraft already on the ground and prepared for departure, Jonathan said the Nigerian team was advised to hold off.

Jonathan expressed deep appreciation to the two presidents for their readiness to act without hesitation, noting that their prompt responses provided critical reassurance as the crisis escalated.

“I’m grateful to President Tinubu and President Ouattara. Both immediately sent planes to evacuate us when the coup began in Guinea-Bissau. Côte d’Ivoire’s aircraft arrived first because of proximity and faster landing approval. Once it was ready, we informed the Nigerian team to stand down,” he explained.

Jonathan had been in Guinea-Bissau as the head of the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, leading a delegation tasked with assessing last Sunday’s presidential and legislative elections. Tension had already been brewing over disputed results when the military moved in and announced that it had seized control.

In a joint statement delivered alongside other African and regional observer missions, Jonathan strongly condemned the power grab, describing it as a deliberate attempt to derail the democratic process and undermine the will of the people.

Taiye Arimoro Faces Suspension Over On-Set Altercation with Peggy Ovire

Nollywood actor Taiye Arimoro has been suspended from all film productions in the industry following a violent altercation on a movie set with fellow actress Peggy Ovire.

The decision was jointly announced by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the Directors Guild of Nigeria, and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP).

The announcement came on Friday via Instagram, with AGN President Emeka Rollas explaining that the suspension reflects the guilds’ commitment to responsibility, fairness, and the well-being of all Nollywood members.

Details of the Incident

According to a joint statement dated 27 November 2025, disciplinary committees from the three guilds reviewed the events and determined that Arimoro was the primary aggressor.

Investigations revealed that Arimoro physically assaulted the production manager and a driver, and circulated a misleading live video that distorted the sequence of events. The video also wrongly implicated producer Peggy Ovire, who was not present during the initial confrontation.

As a result, Arimoro has been suspended from all Nollywood productions until further notice.

Conditions for Reinstatement

The guilds have outlined a clear path for Arimoro to regain good standing, which includes:

* Issuing a public apology to the production manager, Peggy Ovire, and the director.

* Releasing a corrective video clarifying the true events on set.

* Returning to complete his remaining scenes under supervised conditions.

* Full compliance with any additional directives from the guilds.

Emeka Rollas Speaks on the Suspension

In his Instagram post, AGN President Emeka Rollas emphasized that the decision was made from a place of care and commitment to the Nollywood family.

“My heart is deeply connected to the wellbeing of every actor who calls this Guild home. This decision comes from a place of responsibility, love for our industry, and a genuine desire to heal, to restore trust, and to strengthen the bond we share as one family,”Rollas wrote.

He added that the guild seeks to create a culture of fairness, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that every member feels valued and protected.

“AGN is more than a union; it is a community of people with dreams, fears, hopes, and expectations. And every action we take must protect that. Unity is our greatest strength,” he concluded.

Edo State Debunks Viral Report Linking Policeman to Kogi Gun Seizure

The Edo State Government has refuted a widely circulated online report alleging that a police officer attached to the Government House was connected to the illegal movement of firearms recently intercepted in Kogi State.

According to the government, the allegation is false, misleading, and completely detached from established security records.

In an official statement, the government clarified that the officer mentioned in the viral report — Inspector Paul Elimwenga— is not and has never been deployed to the Edo State Government House.

SPU Confirms Officer’s Real Posting

A verification exercise by the Nigerian Police Special Protection Unit (SPU) revealed that Elimwenga is actually a personnel of SPU Base 5.

Contrary to online speculation, he was posted to the residence of a VIP located within the GRA area of Benin City, a neighbourhood close to Government House but not part of its official security operations.

The SPU administrative office reiterated:

“Inspector Elimwenga was assigned to a VIP residence near Government House — not to the Government House itself.”

Further checks showed that the embattled officer abandoned his service rifle at his private residence before fleeing duty.

Rogue Officer on the Run

Security briefings provided to the Edo State Government disclosed that Elimwenga’s last traceable location was Warri, Delta State.

Both SPU operatives and state tactical teams have launched a coordinated manhunt to apprehend him and commence internal disciplinary and criminal procedures.

Authorities stressed that the suspended officer has no link whatsoever to the firearms intercepted in Kogi, contrary to claims being pushed online.

They described the viral story as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and stir unnecessary panic.

Edo Government Reinforces Commitment to National Security

In a separate statement, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua, reaffirmed the state’s strong stance on professionalism and accountability within its security network.

Quoting the governor, he said: “The Edo State Government maintains zero tolerance for any act that threatens public safety or undermines the integrity of the state’s security architecture.”

The administration also echoed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national security directive, emphasizing that the state remains aligned with federal efforts to eliminate security threats across the country.

‘No One Will Be Shielded’ — Government Assures Residents

The state urged citizens to remain calm, insisting that no officer or individual will escape accountability if found culpable in any wrongdoing.

“No person, regardless of affiliation, will be protected if they compromise public safety,” Itua stated.

It concluded by noting that investigations remain ongoing across national security units as part of Nigeria’s broader security enforcement strategy.

2Baba Reveals His Son Nino Wants to Become a Doctor, Not a Musician

Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has opened up about his first son, Nino Idibia, and the path he hopes to follow. Despite being gifted musically — especially with the saxophone — Nino has made it clear that he has no interest in becoming an artist like his father.

2Baba made the revelation during a special event in Abuja held to commemorate his 25 years in the music industry. While introducing Nino on stage, the proud father told the audience:

“Make some noise for my son, Nino! He says he doesn’t want to be a singer — he wants to be a doctor.”

His announcement was met with cheers as the crowd applauded the teenager’s ambition.

Nino, born on January 15, 2006, is 2Baba’s eldest child with his former partner, Sumbo Adeoye.

2Baba and Lawmaker Natasha Osawaru Welcome Baby Boy

In a separate development, 2Baba and his partner, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, a lawmaker from Edo State, have welcomed their first child together — a baby boy.

Rumours of the birth began circulating early Friday after Osawaru was reportedly spotted at a hospital, sparking online speculation that she had gone into labour.

She later confirmed the news with a brief message on her official Facebook page, announcing that she and 2Baba had been “blessed with a baby boy.”

The announcement quickly drew an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans and supporters nationwide.

A Growing Family and a Relationship in the Spotlight

The arrival of the newborn adds another chapter to the couple’s increasingly talked-about relationship.

2Baba and Osawaru formalised their union earlier in the year, shortly after the singer’s separation from Annie Idibia in January.

Their relationship has drawn significant public interest — from the Valentine’s Eve proposal to family visits and traditional rites held in the months that followed.

UNIPORT Student Sentenced to Death for Killing Girlfriend in Rivers State

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced a 400-level Petrochemical Engineering student of the University of Port Harcourt, Damian Okoligwe, to death by hanging for the murder of his girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level Biochemistry student at the same institution.

Justice Chiwen Nsirim Nwosu delivered the judgment on Friday, ruling that the prosecution—led by Charles Obediah-Mbaba—successfully proved beyond reasonable doubt that Okoligwe was responsible for Justina’s gruesome death in October 2023 at his residence.

The court held that the evidence presented clearly established that Justina’s death was the direct result of Okoligwe’s actions.

Shocking Discovery and Arrest

Okoligwe was apprehended in 2023 after neighbours raised suspicion over his attempt to dispose of Justina’s remains.

Officers from the Ozuoba Police Division forced their way into his residence, where they discovered a Ghana-must-go bag containing the dismembered body of the young woman. Security operatives alleged that he killed her for ritual purposes.

The Rivers State Government assumed control of the prosecution, officially commencing the murder trial in May 2024.

Suspect’s Earlier Claims

During a 2023 media briefing at the Rivers State Police Command, Okoligwe denied murdering his girlfriend. He claimed he had been ill when she came to visit and awoke to find her dead.

He further stated that he left for his brother’s house to seek treatment and returned days later to dispose of her body—insisting that she was not mutilated.

Reactions After the Verdict

Speaking after the judgment, prosecuting counsel Obediah Charles Mbaba commended the court for delivering justice in a case he described as “gruesome and heartbreaking.”

“Justice has not only been done, it has been seen and felt to be done,” he said, noting that Justina was the only daughter of her parents. “We believe this judgment will serve as a deterrent to young people who think shortcuts are the quickest path to wealth.”

He added that the ruling should help the family find some peace.

Justina’s elder brother, Osat-Awaji Otuene, also welcomed the judgment, describing it as fair and well-deserved.

“I feel relieved and calm. The judgment was thorough and well delivered. My sister did not die in vain,” he said, expressing gratitude for the court’s handling of the case.
