Suspected Herdsmen Disrupt Night Crusade in Nasarawa, Worshippers Flee

Worshippers in Agboda, a community in Nasarawa State, were thrown into panic on Monday night after suspected herdsmen allegedly disrupted an outdoor Christian crusade, forcing hundreds of participants to flee abruptly.

A video that surfaced online on Tuesday captured the moment the gathering descended into chaos, with men, women, and youths sprinting in different directions as the programme was halted.

According to witnesses, the crusade—attended by residents from Agboda Village and neighbouring settlements—was underway when a group of suspected herders reportedly approached the area, triggering fear among congregants.

In the viral clip, a man recording the scene narrated:

“We came for a crusade here today, and look at what the herdsmen have caused. People are running… everyone is in fear because of the herdsmen in this part of Nasarawa State.”

Although the video showed frantic movement and rising alarm, no explicit acts of violence or visible weapons were captured.

Speaking to newsmen, the programme organiser, Dr. Daniel Ukpo, confirmed that the incident occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

He explained that panic spread after reports filtered in that a youth in a nearby community had been attacked by assailants.

“One of the boys was riding his motorcycle when he was attacked and cut with a machete,” Ukpo said. “His bike was taken, and once the news reached the crusade ground, people started running in fear. We had to stop the programme immediately.”

Ukpo, who has been organising outreach missions across the Mararaba Udege axis, said the scare reflects a growing pattern of insecurity in the region. He recalled that during a recent visit to Ochimi community, residents complained about recurring assaults on farmlands and threats to their safety.

According to him, security presence in the area remains grossly inadequate.

“People are attacked on the roads and even on their farms, and many of these incidents don’t make it to the authorities,” he said. He also alleged that previous religious gatherings had been disrupted by individuals described as armed herders.

“The saddest part is that people here feel helpless. They have no alternative place to go, yet they’re living with constant fear,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, no injuries or deaths related to the crusade incident had been confirmed. Officials of the Nasarawa State government and police command have not issued a formal statement.

Nigeria Police Withdraw VIP Escorts Following Presidential Directive, Focus Shifts to Community Policing

In a sweeping move aimed at refocusing the nation’s security priorities, the Special Protection Unit (SPU) of the Nigeria Police Force has ordered all officers assigned to VIPs and special security beats nationwide to return immediately to their home bases.

The directive follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to withdraw police protection from private individuals.

The order, issued in a memo by SPU Base 16 Commanding Officer, Neji Veronica, Lagos, instructed affected personnel to report back to base by the close of business on Monday, November 24, 2025.

The memo emphasized strict compliance, noting that attendance at a scheduled lecture parade would be taken from the official nominal roll.

“Following the directive of Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces regarding the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, all SPU officers at Base 16 assigned to VIPs or special beats nationwide are to return immediately,” the memo read.

President Tinubu, who announced the policy on November 23, stated that the move is part of a broader effort to redirect police resources toward frontline security and community policing, particularly in underserved and high-risk areas.

VIPs in need of armed protection are now required to seek assistance from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) rather than the police.

A statement from the Presidency highlighted the rationale behind the decision, noting chronic understaffing in many parts of the country. “Numerous communities, particularly in remote regions, lack sufficient police presence, making it difficult to ensure the safety and protection of citizens,” the statement explained. The shift aims to return officers to core policing duties where they are most needed.

To support this realignment, the government has announced plans to recruit an additional 30,000 police officers nationwide. Alongside this, training facilities are set to be upgraded through collaboration with state governments to enhance the preparedness and capability of the force.

Security experts say the move could mark a significant turning point in Nigeria’s approach to law enforcement, emphasizing preventive policing and community engagement over personal security for elites.

Bandits Strike Kwara State Again: Pregnant Woman, Children Abducted

Residents of Isapa in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into fear and chaos on Monday evening following a violent raid by armed bandits. The attackers abducted at least 11 people, including a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, and several children.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, estimated to be between 20 and 30 in number, stormed the town around 6 pm, moving with a large herd of cattle while firing sporadically.

An elderly woman was struck by a stray bullet during the attack, heightening concerns for the community’s safety.

By the time residents gathered their courage to inspect the aftermath, the streets and homes bore the marks of violence: walls and doors riddled with bullets, and spent AK-47 cartridges scattered across the area.

Local leaders confirmed that seven members of one family were among those abducted.

The victims have been identified as Talatu Kabiru, Magaji, Kande, Hadiza, Mariam, Saima, Habibat, Fatima Yusufu, Sarah Sunday (pregnant), Lami Fidelis (nursing mother), and Haja Na Allah.

Sources said the attackers quickly overpowered residents before forcibly taking the victims into nearby forests.

This latest attack comes just days after a similar assault on Eruku town, where terrorists invaded a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church, killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.

Fortunately, all victims from that incident were safely released to the Kwara State Government on Sunday.

The repeated raids have left communities on edge, raising urgent questions about security and the measures in place to protect residents in rural areas.

Health Workers Treating Kwara Kidnap Victims Barred From Using Phone

Thirty-eight members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Oke Isegun, Eruku, are currently under close medical supervision following their release from a five-day captivity in the forest.

The group, abducted during a church service last Tuesday, regained freedom on Sunday and were immediately taken to the Kwara State Government House Clinic in Ilorin.

Authorities have implemented strict security and confidentiality measures at the facility. Only medical staff and trauma specialists are permitted access, and even healthcare workers are barred from carrying mobile phones inside.

A senior government official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the victims will remain under observation for an extended period.

“Their ordeal was extremely traumatic, particularly for the elderly and younger members,” the official stated. “The government is committed to ensuring they receive comprehensive care before they can safely return home.”

Upon their release, the group met with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, after which they were promptly transported to the clinic.

Visitors are not allowed, and the details of the rescue operation have been kept confidential by both the state government and security agencies.

One of the freed captives, Bamidele Emmanuel, described the attack as sudden and terrifying. “We initially thought the sound of gunfire was just some sparking wire.

Within minutes, the bandits had surrounded the church,” he recalled. Emmanuel said that people tried to flee, but bloodshed and chaos quickly engulfed the congregation.

The survivors recounted that the abductors had extensive knowledge of the local terrain, making escape impossible. “As soon as we were taken into the forest, it was clear they controlled the entire area,” Emmanuel said. “They told us they were bandits and made it clear no one could get away.”

He added that the victims suffered both physical and psychological abuse during their captivity, describing the experience as “unimaginable” and something no one should endure.

Security agencies have remained tight-lipped about the rescue operation, leaving many questions unanswered about how the victims were ultimately freed.

FG Unveils New 2025–2030 Counter-Terrorism Strategy to Tackle Insecurity

The Federal Government has rolled out a new long-term security roadmap aimed at transforming Nigeria’s response to terrorism and violent extremism.

The Nigeria Counter-Terrorism Strategic Plan (2025–2030) was officially unveiled in Abuja on Monday, marking a major shift in the country’s national security direction.

The document—crafted by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) under the Office of the National Security Adviser—sets out a five-year framework expected to guide security operations, strengthen intelligence coordination, and modernise the nation’s defence posture.

Unveiling the plan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described it as a patriotic recommitment to securing Nigeria’s future.

“This is a reaffirmation that Nigerians deserve safety, that our children deserve peace, and that our country must be stable before it can thrive,” Akpabio declared at the event.

According to him, the strategic plan focuses on rebuilding security institutions, deploying modern technology, reinforcing community resilience, and creating a unified security front involving government and non-state actors.

He emphasised that the plan answers Nigeria’s most pressing question: How do we secure lives, restore stability, and set the country on an irreversible path to prosperity?

Heightened Attacks Underscore Need for New Strategy

The unveiling of the plan comes amid a wave of brutal attacks across several states.

Recent incidents include:

* The invasion of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, where terrorists killed the vice principal and abducted 25 female students.

* An attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Igan, Eruku in Kwara State, which left three worshippers dead and 38 kidnapped—later rescued on Sunday.

* The shocking raid on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary & Secondary Schools, Papiri, Agwara LGA in Niger State, where 303 students, pupils and staff were kidnapped, sparking widespread outrage. At least 50 victims have reportedly escaped.

These incidents form part of a broader escalation in terrorism and banditry that has stretched Nigeria’s security forces and deepened public anxiety.

Akpabio said insecurity now poses a direct threat to the nation’s survival.

“Investments dry up, classrooms empty, farms are abandoned, and the hope of young Nigerians fades,” he warned.

Legislative Support and the Need for Long-Term Action

The Senate President noted that the 10th National Assembly has passed several new laws strengthening security operations in areas such as policing, defence, intelligence, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism.

He reiterated that parliament will continue providing legislative and budgetary backing for the ongoing security reform.

However, Akpabio stressed that legislation alone cannot defeat terrorism.

“We must invest in people, in technology, in training, and in global partnerships. Firefighting is not enough—we need long-term planning,” he added.

He called for a unified national response that involves communities, traditional institutions, private organisations, civil society, and international partners.

NCTC: Plan Developed Through Broad Consultation

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, represented by NCTC Coordinator Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, said the plan emerged from extensive research and multi-sector consultations.

Stakeholders included ministries, security and intelligence agencies, academics, civil society organisations, development experts and Nigeria’s international allies.

Laka revealed that one of the long-term goals is to position Nigeria as a regional centre for counter-terrorism innovation, particularly within West Africa and the Sahel.

Wesley University Cuts Tuition by 50% for 2025/2026, Excludes Key Programs

Wesley University, Ondo, has unveiled a major tuition relief ahead of the 2025/2026 academic year, announcing a 50% reduction in school fees for a wide range of its programmes.

The institution revealed the new pricing structure during its 14th convocation ceremony held on Saturday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Obeka, said the decision was driven by the worsening economic pressure on students and parents, noting that the university was determined to keep education within reach for more Nigerians.

According to him, the new fee policy aligns with Wesley University’s long-standing mission to provide affordable and inclusive learning opportunities.

“In light of the current economic realities and our commitment to accessible education, the university has approved a moderate reduction in general school fees for the next academic session,” Obeka said.

Professional Courses Not Included in the Fee Cut

The Vice-Chancellor, however, clarified that the reduction would not extend to certain high-demand professional programmes.

Courses such as medicine and surgery, nursing, law, and select medical and allied health disciplines will not benefit from the downward review.

Instead, Obeka announced that these specialised programmes will witness a slight upward adjustment, explaining that their operational requirements are significantly higher.

He noted that maintaining the quality of such programmes demands investment in modern laboratories, clinical training facilities, seasoned faculty members, and strict accreditation standards.

“The adjustment is crucial for sustaining the infrastructure, expertise and regulatory needs of these professional fields,” he added.

A Balanced Approach to Fees

Obeka emphasized that the new fee structure was carefully crafted to strike a balance between compassion and the need to uphold the university’s academic standards.

He described the initiative as a “balanced, student-sensitive policy” that supports affordability while ensuring that Wesley University retains its academic credibility and global relevance.

Peter Obi Applauds Rescue of Abducted Victims, Calls for Sustained Action

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has applauded the rescue of dozens of abducted Nigerians in two separate incidents in Kwara and Niger States, while insisting that the country’s security forces must not relent until every victim is safely returned home.

In a statement shared on his 𝕏 handle on Monday, the former Anambra State governor celebrated the recovery of 38 worshippers abducted from Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

He also welcomed the escape of around 50 students seized from a Catholic private school in Niger State, adding that the updates brought a “refreshing relief” amid the country’s ongoing security troubles.

Obi commended the security operatives involved in the operations, acknowledging their efforts and the collaboration that led to the positive outcomes. However, he warned that these victories should not create a false sense of safety.

“While these developments are heartening, there must be no pause until every child is returned to their families,” he stressed, noting the emotional toll on parents and guardians whose children remain missing.

He further urged the government and security establishments to aggressively pursue those behind the attacks—bandits, kidnappers, and terror groups—so Nigerians can begin to feel genuinely safe again.

Obi also called for heightened vigilance nationwide, advising school administrators and law-enforcement agencies to put stronger preventive measures in place to discourage criminal attempts on educational institutions.

His comments follow the rescue of abducted CAC Eruku congregants on Sunday, November 23, and the retrieval of 51 students taken from a Catholic school in Niger State, linked to a larger abduction incident in the area.

What South-West Governors Discussed At Emergency Security Meeting

The governors of Nigeria’s South-West states gathered in Ibadan on Monday for an emergency strategy session aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in security, agriculture, and socio-economic development.

The meeting—hosted by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde—brought together leaders of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti States.

After hours of closed-door deliberations at the Governor’s Office in Agodi, the South-West Governors’ Forum released a far-reaching communiqué outlining new joint commitments and initiatives for the region.

Key Outcomes from the South-West Governors’ Forum Meeting

Held on Monday, November 24, 2025

Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, Oyo State

The Forum reviewed ongoing national security efforts, particularly Federal Government interventions in Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger States following recent abductions.

They applauded the swift rescue operations, especially the retrieval of more than 51 abducted students in Niger State and kidnapped worshippers in Kwara.

Reaffirming their pledge to safeguard lives and property within the region, the governors announced a series of coordinated actions:

1. Creation of the South-West Security Fund

To consolidate regional security architecture, the governors approved the establishment of the South-West Security Fund (SWSF), which will operate under the supervision of the DAWN Commission.

Special Advisers on Security from each state will jointly manage the fund and hold monthly coordination meetings.

2. Launch of a Joint Intelligence-Sharing Digital Platform

A real-time intelligence exchange system will be rolled out across the six states.

This digital hub will enable the rapid sharing of threat alerts, incident reports, movement and cargo intelligence, and coordinated emergency responses between states.

3. Strengthened Forest Monitoring and Guard Deployment

Recognizing the growing threat posed by criminal hideouts within regional forest belts, the Forum called on the Federal Government to support the deployment of Forest Guards across the South-West. States will supply the personnel, while the Federal Government provides operational backing.

The governors commended Amotekun, NSCDC, hunters, and other security agencies for ongoing surveillance efforts.

4. Tackling Unregulated Interstate Migration

Concerned about the security risks linked to uncontrolled movement into the region, the Forum resolved to enhance border monitoring and population data collection.

States will collaborate closely with NIMC to ensure proper identification and documentation of migrants.

5. Curbing Illegal Mining

With illegal mining increasingly linked to environmental degradation and criminal activity, the governors demanded stricter licensing rules, improved monitoring structures, and tough enforcement measures across all South-West states.

6. Strong Push for State Police

The Forum reiterated its long-standing call for the creation of state police, emphasizing that the urgency “can no longer be postponed.”

7. Boosting Food Security and Climate Resilience

The governors acknowledged the Federal Government’s support for agricultural expansion and hailed farmers within the region for improved production levels, which have contributed to more stable food prices.

8. South-West Development Commission (SWDC)

They expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the SWDC and urged the Commission to deliver tangible development dividends across the region.

9. Commendation of DAWN Commission

The DAWN Commission received praise for its ongoing work in promoting regional integration and coordinating strategic development plans.

10. Call for Unity and Peace

The Forum urged residents of the South-West to remain united, uphold religious tolerance, and protect the region’s longstanding reputation for peaceful coexistence.

Rapper Speed Darlington Wanted by NAPTIP After Failing to Honour Investigators’ Invitation

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has revealed that Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has been placed on a security watchlist following allegations that he engaged in sexual activity with a minor.

This update was shared by Mrs. Ijeoma Amugo, NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, during a media briefing in Abuja to kick off the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

According to Amugo, the entertainer—popularly known as Akpi—came under scrutiny after appearing in an Instagram Live video in which he allegedly boasted about having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

She said investigators invited him to clarify the claims, but he repeatedly ignored their summons.

Instead of cooperating, the agency said Speed Darlington took to social media to lash out at NAPTIP and accuse the organization of infringing on his rights.

“He attempted to get ahead of the investigation by going online to discredit us and publicly insisting he would not honour our invitation,” Amugo explained. “We made efforts to physically serve him and locate him, which is necessary for due process, but he was nowhere to be found at his known addresses.”

She added that the agency later received intelligence suggesting the rapper had already departed Nigeria.

“Our latest information indicates he is currently outside the country. For that reason, we have placed him on the watchlist. Once he returns, we will resume the investigation from the point where it was stalled,” Amugo said.

She confirmed that NAPTIP has had no direct communication with him since the development and that the case remains open pending his return to Nigeria.
