Lagos Police Intensify Security, Arrest 56 Suspects Amid Rising Crime

The Lagos State Police Command has ramped up its security presence across the state, covering schools, markets, places of worship, and major public areas, as part of measures to tackle rising insecurity nationwide.

This intensified operation comes alongside the arrest of 56 individuals linked to various criminal activities in the metropolis, the Command confirmed on Monday.

Recent weeks have witnessed escalating security concerns across Nigeria, including Boko Haram attacks in Borno State and increasing banditry in Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi states.

Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, stated that the enhanced deployment is part of a broader strategy to safeguard lives and property as the festive season approaches.

“Our officers are stationed at strategic locations including worship centres, markets, recreational spots, and major highways. The aim is to ensure a safe and crime-free season for Lagosians,” Jimoh said. He added that the security situation in Lagos remains stable, thanks not only to police efforts but also to the collaboration and support of the public.

The CP disclosed that all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Squads, and Unit Commanders had been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly at worship centres during services.

Intelligence-driven operations have begun producing results. Within November alone, the Command recovered ten stolen vehicles, several firearms, and dangerous weapons, including machetes, a battle axe, and an assault dagger.

Offenders apprehended during the operations faced charges ranging from armed robbery, conspiracy, kidnapping, assault, theft, to threats to life. Authorities also seized locally made pistols, cut-to-size guns, military camouflage, charms, and counterfeit currency valued at $4,000.

“These recoveries are part of a deliberate strategy to dismantle criminal networks, intercept stolen property, remove illegal firearms, and enhance public safety across Lagos State,” Jimoh explained.

The Commissioner emphasized that the seizures and arrests significantly weaken the operational capabilities of criminal gangs, reinforcing the overall security framework in the state.

“The recovery of these weapons and materials disrupts the activities of violent groups and strengthens the safety of our communities,” he added, assuring Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to maintaining law and order.

Ike Ekweremadu Will Serve Full Prison Term in UK, British Authorities Tells Nigerian Govt

The United Kingdom has turned down the Nigerian government’s request to have former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu serve the remainder of his prison sentence in Nigeria.

Ekweremadu, who is currently incarcerated in the UK, was convicted in 2023 for his role in an organ trafficking scheme and sentenced to nine years and eight months for conspiring to exploit a young man’s kidney.

In November 2025, the Federal Government initiated discussions with British authorities over the possible transfer of Ekweremadu to serve his sentence in Nigeria. A high-level Nigerian delegation, including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, engaged the UK government on the matter.

However, according to the UK Guardian, citing an unnamed Ministry of Justice official, the request was rejected. The official explained that the UK authorities were concerned Nigeria could not guarantee the continuation of Ekweremadu’s prison term if he were deported.

“Any prisoner transfer is at our discretion following a careful assessment of whether it would be in the interests of justice,” the source stated. “The UK will not tolerate modern slavery, and any offender will face the full force of UK law.”

The decision reinforces the UK’s strict stance against human trafficking and modern slavery, signaling that Ekweremadu will serve his sentence entirely under the UK penal system.

‘Stop Defending Criminals’: Charly Boy Blasts Sheikh Gumi

Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has publicly criticized controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmed Gumi for advocating dialogue with bandits instead of military action.

The cleric recently stated that confronting bandits could escalate insecurity, suggesting that authorities should consider negotiating with them. Charly Boy, reacting on Instagram, strongly rejected this view, condemning Gumi for appearing to defend criminals while the country suffers.

In his post, Charly Boy painted a grim picture of the consequences of banditry, highlighting the loss of lives, abandoned farms, and ghost towns in affected communities. He questioned why anyone would advocate for dialogue or amnesty for perpetrators while victims continue to suffer.

“People are grieving, families are burying their children, and entire villages are empty. And here you are, speaking up for the criminals? What is wrong with you?” he wrote.

Charly Boy accused Sheikh Gumi of acting as a “public relations officer” for bandits, claiming his words amplify confusion rather than promote peace. He urged the cleric to reconsider his stance, insisting that leaders and influential figures who excuse violence under the guise of negotiation are part of the problem.

“Any leader, cleric, or elder using dialogue as an excuse to pamper killers is complicit in the crisis. If it were your family being attacked, you wouldn’t preach patience—you’d demand action,” he added.

The entertainer concluded his post by calling on the government to take decisive action and protect victims, while warning Gumi to stop defending what he described as evil.

“Bandits must be stopped. Victims must be protected. Government must act. If you cannot speak this truth, at least stay silent,” Charly Boy said.

Anambra Silent Again as Monday Sit-at-Home Holds Despite Kanu’s Conviction

Anambra State once again fell silent on Monday as the weekly sit-at-home tradition held firm across major cities, including Onitsha and Nnewi, despite the recent conviction and incarceration of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Markets, banks, schools, and public institutions locked their gates, while major highways remained largely empty as residents chose to stay indoors.

The widespread compliance, seen across the South-East, reflects the deep-rooted sentiment and solidarity many still express toward Kanu.

Although IPOB no longer enforces the order, residents say the Monday shutdown has evolved into a self-motivated civil demonstration.

Obed Nwachukwu, a resident, told reporters that Kanu’s imprisonment has not weakened the resolve of the people.

According to him, “Anyone expecting businesses to bounce back because Kanu has been jailed does not understand the resolve of our people. This continues until he is free.”

Another community leader, Chief Okwudili Okoye, dismissed the Federal Government’s stance and the Abuja Federal High Court’s judgment, calling both “unconvincing.”

He added, “This sit-at-home has become a peaceful way for us to demand justice. The moment Nnamdi Kanu walks free, the region will return to normal.”

Across Anambra, residents emphasized that the weekly shutdown has grown beyond an IPOB-inspired directive. For many, it is now a symbolic expression of longstanding frustrations over perceived political and economic marginalisation of the Igbo people.

Atiku Speaks After Joining ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially pitched his political tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), proclaiming that a “new era of genuine opposition” has begun as he prepares for another run at national leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku announced his new political home on Monday after registering as a member of the ADC at his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State—an act that finally ends weeks of speculation following his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Brandishing his fresh membership card, Atiku declared that his mission is clear: “The moment has come. With the ADC, the work of real opposition starts now. We are ready to unseat the APC and redirect this country.”

He urged his supporters across Nigeria to immediately sign up with the ADC, describing the party as a reinvigorated platform poised to reshape the nation’s political direction.

Adamawa ADC Chairman, Shehu Yohanna, who supervised Atiku’s registration, said the former vice president’s entrance marks the formal start of a statewide mobilisation drive that will cut across every local government and ward. He encouraged women and young people to seize the opportunity to join the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Sadiq Yar’Adua, National Secretary of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee, reinforced Atiku’s rallying call, urging citizens to register, vote, and “take charge of the country’s political destiny.”

The event drew an impressive array of political heavyweights from Adamawa State, a turnout observers interpret as an early sign of a major political realignment.

Among those in attendance were former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Senator Aishatu Binani, Senator Ahmed Barata, Senator Aziz Nyako, and Senator Ishaku Abbo.

Rhodes-Vivour: 5 Dangers of Allowing Nigerians To Carry Guns

If you woke up tomorrow and discovered that your neighbour, your bus driver, your tailor, your mechanic, your pastor, and even that man who argues too loudly at the suya spot now legally owned guns…

What would Nigeria look like?

Picture this.

A Lagos traffic jam, sun blazing, horns blaring, danfo conductor screaming “O wa o, enter with your change!”

A small scratch happens—just a side mirror brushing another side mirror. Normally this would escalate into shouting, chest-beating and the usual “Do you know who I am?” routine.

But now imagine both drivers are licensed gun owners.

Suddenly the argument isn’t just two hot-headed men trading insults.

It has the potential to become a national tragedy trending on X by noon and generating hashtags like:

#MirrorGate #DanfoShootout #ThisCountryNeverCeasesToAmazeUs

This is the nightmare scenario lurking underneath Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s controversial suggestion that if the government cannot protect Nigerians, it should consider licensing firearms.

The idea sounds bold. It sounds empowering. It sounds like the kind of thing that makes frustrated citizens say, “At last, somebody said it!”

But behind that adrenaline rush lies a set of wild, unpredictable, and very Nigerian dangers—the kind nobody talks about.

Let’s dive into the five most explosive risks that could erupt if Nigeria suddenly became a gun-licensed nation.

1. Every Little Argument Could Become A Shootout Waiting To Happen

Nigeria is a country where people have started fights because:

* someone stepped on white sneakers,

* someone didn’t greet properly,

* someone looked “too proud,”

* or the bus conductor didn’t have ₦50 change.

Now imagine all this with guns in the mix.

Disagreements that normally end with insults could escalate into lethal drama.

A mistakenly splashed muddy water could turn into a gun-drawing contest.

One wrong word at a bar could become the sequel to an action film nobody asked for.

Nigeria doesn’t lack passion—adding firearms to that passion is like adding petrol to jollof rice.

It will not end well.

2. Hot Temper + Hardship = A Dangerous Combination

We are in a country where:

* electricity disappears without warning,

* fuel queues appear like uninvited guests,

* salaries vanish into inflation,

* the cost of tomatoes can cause emotional trauma.

When people are under pressure, their tolerance level plummets.

And an overstressed, underpaid, frustrated population being legally armed?

That’s a recipe for more tragedy than empowerment.

The emotional elasticity of the average Nigerian is already stretched thin.

Licensed guns could snap it entirely.

3. Criminals Could Become “Licensed Citizens” Overnight

Let’s be honest: People have found ways to get driver’s licences without passing tests.

People have gotten passports without documentation.

People have gotten land they don’t own.

Now picture that same energy entering the gun-licensing system.

With corruption in the mix, some of the most dangerous individuals could become “legally armed.” Not just armed—government-approved armed.

Suddenly the line between “citizen” and “criminal” becomes blurry.

Very blurry.

4. Police Encounters Could Turn into Wild West Episodes

Imagine a typical Nigerian police checkpoint:

* “Park! Park! Where is your licence?”

* “Oga, what did I do?”

* “Are you questioning me?”

Now add legal firearms.

Instead of de-escalating violence, encounters could become more heated.

Suspicion rises.

Fear rises.

Miscommunication becomes deadly.

Nigeria’s relationship between citizens and law enforcement is already tense.

Throw legally-owned guns into the mix, and we risk turning routine checks into headline-making tragedies.

5. Accidents, Mistakes, And Unintended Consequences

The most dangerous gun isn’t the one in the hands of a criminal—

it’s the one in the hands of someone who:

* has no training,

* no discipline,

* no understanding of firearm safety.

Guns have no undo button.

One accidental trigger pull, one careless moment, one curious child…

and lives could be changed forever.

Firearm licensing sounds empowering until the unintended consequences begin to unfold—quietly, tragically, and permanently.

The Uncomfortable Truth

Rhodes-Vivour’s argument comes from desperation — a cry against a failing security system that leaves citizens helpless.

Nigerians are tired. Nigerians are scared. Nigerians want protection.

But the solution is not as simple as “Let Nigerians carry guns.”

Because once a gun leaves its holster, it does not negotiate.

It does not listen.

It does not discriminate.

It simply changes fate.

Nigeria must fix its broken security architecture, not outsource it to individuals navigating a chaotic society.

Because the day every citizen becomes armed is the day the country steps onto a road with no clear return.

Rhodes-Vivour Suggests Licensed Firearms as Insecurity Escalates

Lagos Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has suggested that the Federal Government may need to permit licensed firearms if it continues to fail in safeguarding Nigerians from escalating violence and abductions.

His remarks follow a fresh wave of kidnappings across the country, heightening anxiety over Nigeria’s deteriorating security environment.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Rhodes-Vivour argued that insecurity is no longer a challenge confined to any region.

He pointed to recent incidents in Kwara and Ogun States as proof that the crisis has spread nationwide.

He warned that when government institutions break down and citizens lose confidence in the state’s ability to protect them, people will naturally seek ways to defend themselves — whether or not the government is prepared for that reality.

“This is not a northern problem alone,” he said. “We witnessed multiple abductions in parts of the Southwest just days ago. When public institutions collapse and trust in government evaporates, people become desperate for alternatives.”

Rhodes-Vivour added that it is unfair for authorities to demand that citizens remain vulnerable while offering little in return.

“I’m speaking out because the failure of the system is obvious,” he said. “If the government refuses to rise to its responsibilities, then it must start thinking seriously about issuing firearm licences. Expecting people to stay helpless is an act of cruelty.”

He urged the Federal Government to recommit to its constitutional duty of protecting lives, stressing that Nigerians can no longer depend on short-lived or reactive security measures.

“In The Days Ahead We Will Kidnap A Governor, The President And Others” – Terrorist Threatens

A self-proclaimed militant commander has surfaced in a new video circulating online, issuing bold threats against the Nigerian state and asserting that his group plans to escalate its campaign of violence.

In the footage, obtained by newsmen, the man—armed and clad in what resembles a Nigerian military jacket—claims his faction carried out the recent mass kidnappings of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger states. He warned that those incidents were only a prelude to more audacious attacks.

According to him, the group intends to move from targeting vulnerable communities to going after high-ranking figures within the country’s leadership.

“We have already taken students in Kebbi and Niger,” he boasted. “What comes next will be even bigger. We are prepared to seize senior military officers and take them deep into the forest.”

Gesturing to the uniform he wore, the speaker declared that his group’s ambitions extend to the highest levels of government. “This clothing belongs to a soldier,” he said. “Soon, we will kidnap a governor. Even the President is not beyond our reach.”

Security agencies have not verified the man’s identity, but his remarks have stirred public alarm. Throughout the video, he accuses the government of failing to protect its citizens and urges Nigerians to seek spiritual rather than state protection.

“The arrest of a few people means nothing,” he asserted. “The government cannot keep you safe. Turn to God—He is the one who can answer your cries.”

He concluded his message by addressing followers on social media, proclaiming that ordinary citizens should not expect help from the country’s elites. “The powerful will not wipe your tears,” he said. “We have awakened. I greet all of you online. Enjoy your day.”

Odira Nwobu: Full Biography of the Late Nollywood Star

If life had a volume knob, Odira Nwobu’s was stuck permanently at the highest setting. Nothing about him was subtle — not his face, not his voice, not his spirit.

He laughed loudly, lived boldly, loved fiercely, and survived catastrophes that should have been final. They said he was too stubborn to die; too dramatic for a quiet ending.

So when whispers began swirling that the Nollywood comic star had allegedly passed away after a wild weekend in South Africa, the shock was universal.

How could someone whose energy felt like a natural disaster simply… stop? Odira wasn’t built for silence. He was built for impact.

And his life story — full of twists, madness, miracles, scandals, triumphs, and pain — deserves to be told not with whispering sadness, but with the fiery intensity he embodied from start to finish.

Origins from The Igbo Heartland

Odira Nwobu was born in Enugu, Nigeria, but rumor — and various sources — paint a more mythological lineage: he hailed from Umubelle Village, in Awka South, Anambra State, where the river whispers secrets and the wind carries ancestral laughter.

From his earliest moments, Odira seemed destined for performance.

Girlish giggles turned into dramatic school plays, church skits, and neighborhood pageants.

Even as a child, people noticed: this boy had something — not just comedic timing, but a raw emotional current, like he was channeling more than just his own silly self.

A Tiny Giant In Nollywood

In a world that often prizes height, Odira made his signature: a small-statured frame, but a voice and presence that felt oversized.

He burst into Nollywood with humble beginnings, acting in “Joseph the Dreamer”, a role that would change everything.

That turn earned him a nomination for Best Comic Actor at the African Movie Academy Awards — a nod that told the world he wasn’t just a sidekick, but a force.

His filmography read like a collection of village legends: he played mischievous boys, jokers, messengers, and storytellers.

From Goat Lover to Village Rats, his characters were silly, sweet, and deeply human.

The Comedy Alchemist

What made Odira special wasn’t just punchlines — it was how he used his body.

He didn’t need witty dialogue; his face, his eyes, his posture said it all.

He leaned into absurdity: lifting plus-sized women in goofy photoshoots, for example, just to make a point or coax out a laugh.

In a weird, paradoxical way, he was both the jester and the philosopher.

Underneath his comic persona was a man who knew suffering, heartbreak, and survival — and he let that bleed into his roles.

The Crash That Almost Ended Him

Life threw Odira a devastating curveball in mid-2025. While traveling from Lagos to Enugu for a real estate shoot, the car he was in crashed violently after an overtaking maneuver went wrong.

He would later recount how he began coughing on the trip, switched to the front seat, and then watched as disaster struck. He was trapped, battered, barely breathing — yet alive.

A soldier, someone wearing a uniform, had to cut him free from his seatbelt.

He said he saw friends dying. One friend did not make it.

Incredibly, Odira survived. He carried the scars — physical and emotional — like medals.

He later shared this near-death experience publicly, admitting he didn’t know how he was still breathing, but he felt chosen.

Love, Family, And Legacy

Odira’s heart wasn’t only on stage. In 2021, he married the woman he called his “better half.”

That partnership gave him deep grounding — and in December 2023, he and his wife welcomed their first child, a girl.

Though he basked in his comic star-power, Odira was quietly introspective off-camera.

He spoke publicly about having been in controlling or even abusive relationships, something rarely discussed by men in his industry.

His vulnerability endeared him to many, making him not just a clown but a voice for real, messy humanity.

Bizarre Moments & On-Set Antics

If the world saw Odira as just a funny guy, those close to him knew he was a walking cartoon — in a good way.

Once, during a photo shoot, he tried to lift a plus-sized woman, perhaps out of jest, perhaps out of desire to subvert expectations.

That moment went viral. It wasn’t just because it was funny; it was weird in a way only Odira could make weird, and that weirdness felt oddly liberating.

There were rumors that he danced with phantom friends, that he carried secret notebooks of jokes in his pockets, that he talked to himself — but always in character.

He blurred the line between his real self and his performance self, and that made him magical.

The Mysterious Final Chapter

In the wake of his reported death, the world is left asking questions about how someone so lively could depart so suddenly — especially after a trip to South Africa, where he was allegedly partying just hours before.

(As reported in initial news.) While his close friend Awuzie Frankline shared a heart-wrenching video, no official statement from his family had emerged at the time of those reports.

His passing, if confirmed, is a tragedy not just because of the loss of talent, but because of the many stories he still had to tell.

In The End …

If life were a final scene, Odira’s would be shot in slow motion: the sharp glint in his eyes, a crooked grin, maybe a tear.

The credits roll, but his voice echoes. He’s gone — or at least, his physical form might be — but the spirit of Odira Nwobu is more cinematic than most of the blockbuster films he starred in.

In his short, vivid life, he packed in more contradictions than some people do in a lifetime.

He lived big, laughed loud, crashed hard, survived, loved deeply — and left us with a question: If we ever meet again, will he still be dancing?

Shock as Nigerian Actor Odira Nwobu Is Reportedly Found Dead After Trip to South Africa

The Nigerian entertainment community has been thrown into mourning following reports that popular actor and digital creator Odira Nwobu has passed away.

News of his alleged death surfaced on Monday after media personality Awuzie Frankline posted a distressing video on social media showing the actor motionless.

Frankline, who appeared visibly shaken, refrained from revealing the circumstances of the incident but hinted that Nwobu may have died only hours after spending a night out in South Africa over the weekend.

In a series of emotional posts, Frankline struggled to process the development.

“God, why! Odira, why would you leave us like this?” he wrote, describing the call he received about the actor’s condition as “devastating.”

He followed with another heart-wrenching message, recalling Nwobu’s recent moments of joy:

“You were vibrant just a few hours ago in South Africa. You even celebrated a thanksgiving service not long ago, surrounded by people who love you. How do you return from that same trip without life? I am in tears. Death is cruel.”

The news also stunned comedian Evan Okoro, who shared Nwobu’s photo with the disbelief-laden caption: “How? No… I refuse to believe this.”

Nwobu’s name trended earlier this year after he survived a severe car crash that left a vehicle mangled beyond recognition.

A video from the scene, which spread widely online, showed rescuers pulling survivors from the wreckage.

As of the time of writing, Nwobu’s family has not released an official statement confirming the reports or shedding light on what may have happened.

The entertainment world now waits anxiously for clarity as fans continue to pour out tributes and prayers in hope and heartbreak.
