Victor Osimhen Sparks Buzz After Singing Yinka Ayefele’s Gospel Hit at Daughter’s Birthday

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has once again found himself at the center of public conversation — this time, not for his performances on the pitch, but for a heartfelt moment at his daughter’s birthday celebration that has quickly gone viral.

In a video widely circulated on social media platforms over the weekend, Osimhen was seen passionately singing and dancing to veteran gospel singer Yinka Ayefele’s 2005 hit song “Beru Ba Mope” during his daughter’s third birthday party.

The scene, which featured a lively atmosphere filled with family and close friends, has drawn wide attention, with many interpreting the football star’s musical choice as more than mere entertainment.

Lyrics Stir Reactions

Many have zeroed in on the Yoruba lyrics of the song, which translate loosely as:

“Let them say whatever they like. I will keep watching them. That’s their business. Mine is to keep progressing.”

The message, interpreted by some fans as a subtle response to recent personal controversies and family-related discussions in the media, has sparked speculation about the intent behind the performance.

“Strong message to his extended family waiting for free money,” one commenter wrote, alluding to Osimhen’s recent estrangement from certain relatives.

Ayefele Responds

Veteran singer Yinka Ayefele acknowledged the viral moment by reposting the video on his social media page, writing,

“Victor Osimhen vibing to YINKA AYEFELE’S FULFILMENT.”

The track “Beru Ba Mope” originally appeared on Ayefele’s 2005 album Fulfilment, and carries messages of gratitude, endurance, and determination in the face of adversity.

Fans Celebrate Cultural Connection

Beyond the controversy, many Nigerians praised Osimhen for embracing traditional music and celebrating his roots, even while living and working abroad.

“This song just brings back memories… Osimhen shows he’s still one of us,” a user commented on Instagram.

Others noted the cross-cultural nature of the moment, pointing out that despite hailing from Edo State, Osimhen’s choice of a Yoruba gospel song reflects unity and appreciation of Nigeria’s diverse traditions.

Public Image Beyond Football

The moment highlights the personal side of one of Nigeria’s most prominent football exports. As he continues to make headlines for his performances in Europe and for the Super Eagles, Osimhen’s visibility off the field is increasingly shaping his public persona.

While the video may appear to some as a calculated message, it also reflects a father celebrating his daughter with joy — using the sounds that connect to his roots and values.

Super Eagles Pull Out of U.S. Friendlies to Prioritize World Cup Play-Off Campaign

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially withdrawn the Super Eagles from their scheduled international friendlies in the United States next month, citing the need to concentrate fully on the upcoming FIFA World Cup play-offs.

The friendly matches — initially planned against Venezuela on November 14 in Houston and Colombia on November 18 in New Jersey — have been scrapped as Nigeria prepares for a high-stakes qualification showdown for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.

In a statement released by NFF officials, the federation confirmed the cancellation, pointing to a clause in the match contracts that permits withdrawal in the event of World Cup qualification commitments.

“The friendlies were subject to cancellation if the national team progressed to the play-off stage,” an NFF official disclosed. “With the fixtures now overlapping, the priority is to focus entirely on securing a World Cup ticket.”

Nigeria is set to face Gabon in a decisive semi-final tie on November 13 in Morocco, part of a newly structured African play-off format that determines the continent’s final representatives for the global tournament.

Should the Super Eagles advance past Gabon, they will face either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final, with the winner booking a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup — jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The decision to cancel the U.S. tour reflects a strategic pivot by the NFF, prioritizing competitive readiness over exhibition games.

It also allows head coach Finidi George additional time to fine-tune tactics and condition the squad ahead of what is expected to be a physically and mentally demanding qualifying series.

Nigeria, currently Africa’s top-ranked team among the four remaining contenders, is aiming for a return to the World Cup after a disappointing miss in 2022.

Beyond the World Cup, the November play-offs also serve as crucial preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will also be hosted in Morocco later this year.
