AAC Elects New NWC as Omoyele Sowore Retains National Chairmanship

Human rights advocate and Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, has secured another term as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC), following a decisive endorsement at the party’s National Convention held on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

The convention, attended by party delegates, stakeholders, media organisations, and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reaffirmed the AAC’s mission to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape through people-driven governance, social justice, and structural reforms.

Delegates emphasized that the party remains committed to challenging entrenched political interests and advancing a bold, alternative vision for national transformation.

Sowore’s re-election came alongside the unveiling of a revitalized National Working Committee (NWC), featuring key figures positioned to strengthen the party’s organisational structure across the country.

Speaking after his re-election, Sowore reiterated the AAC’s resolve to dismantle oppressive systems that have perpetuated poverty, insecurity, and political exclusion.

He described the convention as more than a constitutional formality—calling it a living example of what transparent, participatory democracy should look like.

According to Sowore, “AAC is committed to birthing a new Nigeria,” a vision deeply rooted in the party’s ideological commitment to justice, equality, and genuine national renewal.

The convention was organised by the National Convention Planning Committee, chaired by Kayode Babayomi, with Ambassador Umar Y. Abubakar serving as secretary.
